I keep getting an improper shutdown notice on my Epic MX whenever I replace batteries that go dead while shooting. The power value indicator is working, but sometimes I forget to change out batts. I am using a PRO X GPX-S v mount battery plate with power cable to rear power port. Is there a problem with this configuration? I checked menu for some setting that I need to make but I see nothing. Shouldn't the camera know and shut itself down properly?

If red volt goes below 10% the camera initiates a auto shut down.
Mostly ejecting the mag before shutting down as part of the proper shut down sequence.
I can image that because its not a RED battery, the camera just shuts down once battery dies, like when you pull the plug.
So it does not shut down properly and results in a error message.

I use Red volts as a backup. So when my v-mount batteries die, they automatically switch to the volts meaning once the volts get drained, the auto-shutdown counter and message pops up. I've tried for years to tell my clients to watch the meter but they truly don't look or care. Benefit of having the volts as backup (cause they suck as the primary battery power source), is literally to offer a counter for safe shutdowns.

I too try this method Wil, however I find the camera always uses the battery with the least amount of charge first. So when my Red Brick dies, it switches over the the redvolt and I change the brick on the back. However it doesnt then switch back to the brick because the redvolt has the lower charge so the camera stays on that till its depleted. I tried removing the redvolt after installing the brick and then placing the redvolt back it and it switches straight back to the redvolt.
I cant find a setting to make the DC in the primary source and only go to the side handle if the DC in is too low.

I got caught out with this as I wasn't paying attention after I put the new brick on - didnt check to see which power source it was using. It finished off the redvolt and then went to the brick, as soon as the brick died - camera blacked out.

I'll have to test to see if my camera uses the lower powered battery first but I don't think that happens to me.

Usually when the volts reach count down, I switch both the v-mount battery and the volt. The v-mount is always the first to be drained priority wise. Mind you, I use the type of v-mount back that has a cable not the direct back powered type from red (although I love that module...if only it didn't require having to buy the adapter or +1 piece).

as far as I know, priority is to the cabled power input then the sidehandle volts.
