@Harrison - I hope you get yours soon! That's certainly a long time to wait, really feel for you.

@Sergio - thanks for the advice, hopefully you're right!

@Scott - This is the complaints forum, after all. And most people are offering great advice, solutions, and helping me keep my head up in a time of great financial burden, and difficult decisions. I offered my previous work as a compliment to Red, and to show my loyalty and familiarity with the product. There is no need for your attitude, and no one is forcing you to read this thread.

Agreed. Play nice. This is a good place for advice, no need to rip anyone a new one.

Andrew, I'm glad to see that you got some great sound advice from people like Jim and Steve to a genuine original post. These kind of situations show the best in REDuser. Unfortunately it brought a bit of negativity with it.

Anyhow, I'm glad to see you here. Welcome!

The best is yet to come...

Thanks for the comments, everyone. There have been some really helpful thoughts in this thread.

Ultimately my partner and I decided to wait for the Scarlet, although as a result we're missing out on three opportunities to recoup some of the purchase costs through rentals on projects I'm shooting. With more communication from Red (that is, some at all) this could have been avoided.

That being said, I'm very still very excited to get the camera. Hopefully in the near future with some hours under my belt, and good footage on my drives (and eventually on screens), this whole ordeal will be behind us.

My $.02... do what you need to do. If that's renting a Scarlet, or another Camera... go for it. If it means you want to move on and purchase somehing else... by all means, do what's best for your business.

In my view, EPIC and Scarlet are the future and are only improving every day. Sure it's frustrating when not all of the back orders are fulfilled, but RED is about to get past that point as a growing company.

Again, do what's right for you... or at least what you think is right for you right now. I know for a fact that RED, in the long run, has never let me down. Ever.

Those with vision, passion, and patience always are rewarded by this innovative company.

Good to hear! We all went through this at one time or another. I waited a year for my Red One, 18 months for my Epic, and 2 months for my Scarlet. The one thing Red drilled into us beyond anything else is not to plan productions around any specific dates. This is good because they used to give estimates that ended up being completely wrong, and though people weren't supposed to plan, they did.

Believe me, you are better off with silence followed by a happy surprise than incorrect estimates. There are so many factors Red aren't in 100% control over. Seriously, the earthquake in Japan set Epic back about 4 months!

The point is, once you get it, you'll never think twice about the time or pain it took, you'll just get on with doing great work.

Welcome to the club!

Hey when i ordered my Epic M i was expecting to wait a year... I received my epic within 10days!

Expect the unexpected and you will never be disappointed.

With what my friend ?
Because, with all due respect: it's not the camera making your project, it's you and your script.

I second Rocco on this.

While I can certainly understand your frustration, here are a couple of thoughts. Firstly, you have two businesses: a camera rental business, and a business that provides your talents as a d.p. The first business is under a little hiatus - but you are more or less in the same boat as your competition. Also, the Red 1MX is still an incredible camera.

Is the grass greener if you date another hot chick? I can't answer that for you. I can say, that before Red even came along, I was getting frustrated with Arri waiting for them to put the D20 on the market - with delay after delay - and it never came out. (Mind you, I wasn't going to buy one, I just wanted access to it through a rental house).

Companies developing new cameras in the current environment have a tight line to walk. They are trying to get the next generation camera technology out on the market asap, but that technology changes so rapidly, that they must constantly reexamine the best path to take, all along making sure they don't put something out there that is not up to snuff or will be obsolete a week after it hits the market. (So frustratingly, Arri never came out with the D20 really, but they did come out with the much more worthy Alexa.) That's why "the only certainty is change." On top of that, to try to announce and stick to some sort of release schedule would not only be foolish, but would really be frustrating to us all.

We have all made an order but why sweat it? They are still make the modules for the camera. I would do my prep work for the next film or checkout other things that i may need for the camera. Do you have a set deadline or do you set your deadlines? I'm laid back and stacking my money so i can order whatever else is needed.

"appraised" - ??

We should all contribute as much as Mr. Jobs did.

No one should do business with a company they believe is inflicting "real damage" to them with their "bullshit." Simple as that. Lots of cameras out there.

I completely understand your reaction.

Its 2012, the end of the world, and a company with great technology can't spend a few thousand to write a simple web program to estimate shipping dates. wop wop wop

but its great you know why? cause all ARRI has to do is provide excellent customer support, and the cute chick that treats you right will get the wife nomination...

I sense a troll... And a thread that's about to go downhill fast.
