  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If you use a DSMC...

I've always been a cinemaphotographer or something like that. My TRV900 already had a stills photo button some 10 years ago. Of course the resolution was limited to 640x480 and you had to use a floppy disk (!) to extract them... :clown2:

Agree, Steven-Marc.

My TRV900 was such an incredible tool, shot so many shorts, in extrem conditions. 10 years later, I'm still using it to make my softwares able to send my pictures on an external monitor, through the firewire...

This little camera was so easy to use, so light...

It represents exactly what I'm waiting from the DSMCs... exept those ones will have higher resolution, speeder framerates, and what we can call a DOF...

Can't wait to handle one of your "toys" Red Team...

A camera captures a moment. Nothing else.

Simplified: Learn how to tell a story (for your requirements), then try to get the tools that are supporting you / that are needed to tell this story. Not inreverse.

What about us that shoot animals and stuff in the wild, you could write an amazing story but will be waiting a long time to get your shots.

Cinemaphotographer? maybe you could call yourself one on a specific job that is definitely airing at a cinema.....I'm an image documentarian

I don't think the DSMC/Scarlet is going to be anywhere near as small and compact as the old TRV 900.

The TRV900 is a great camera.
Here's an old post I made on REDuser nearly 2 years ago about the TRV900.

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4537&page=3

I love my TRV900. It's still a workhorse. It's the only DV ingest deck I've owned. The TRV900 was revolutionary in its time(1998).
In some ways, it was a lot like RED then(even if it was made by Sony). It had a web fan club, way before the DVX100. I followed the first comparison camera tests by Jbeale(a regular poster here now at REDuser.net) and went to his website often. http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/ I first learned about the DVX100 on John's site. Of course I first learned about the RED on the DVXuser site. The TRV900 was 1/2 the price of its predecessor. It even recorded to PCMCIA cards or external drive (only stills guys and that was a 1.2MB floppy drive, Ha!). It was the first to have a very large external LCD screen, better than many today. It changed the way video was shot for many. No more looking through a viewfinder to get a shot. I shot features, weddings, events, family and more. It's Pro brother (PD-100) shot TV and ENG. I even have the pro XLR audio adapter that only came with the PD-100 for use with my TRV900.

Had to have the head replaced a few years ago.

I'm a bit late on this, as usual. But yes Cinemaphotographer is good

Jim, this thread is fishy... Are you telling us something? Recently you've focused on the Red Workflow, and now you want us to think back on the DMSC... I feel the time for my bank loan is getting closer... Just puchased an EZ Jib for my shooting arsenal...

Are you teasing us? Are we about to finally have an update on our dream cameras?

Look at the start date of this thread by Jim - 11/18/08. A few days ago in Post #53, a member, not RED Team, dredged up this old thread and posted on it, which brought the thread back up to the top of the forum. All the posts on Pages 1-5 are from November 2008, and Jim hasn't posted on this thread since November 2008.

The above said, I have a feeling that very soon we'll get some very cool DSMC news :-)

We're looking forward to acquiring an Epic and a Scarlet when they're released. Will it make me a Cinemaphotographer? It'll make me a HAPPY Cinemaphotographer :-)
