So, I'm working on a suspense feature and I'm having some thoughts for shooting style and gaffing. Unfortunately, the two conflict a little. For the shooting I need to do long tracking shots to get the right effect. Sadly, the film takes place in a motel and we have only the budget to shoot on location. Eight foot ceilings are the silent killer for me. So, I suggested to my gaffer that we go to a home improvement store and buy a load of standard bulbs and testing them with the RED One and see what we like, and when we load in just replace all the bulbs in the fixtures in the location.
I think it could work...But don't have much confidence. I want contrast and all that, and we can set additional practicals in the rooms if we need to. Mostly it's just the problem need to not show light stands and fresnels every time we move the camera, and working in close quarters on location, that happens more often than not. So, do we bite the bullet and light it with real fixtures? Or could the practicals only thing work?
Thanks,
