  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If you could only have 1 lens to pair with your Komodo, which would it be?

Ivotals

Ivotals

I've been scheming to line up my C-mount Cooke Ivotals for this, at least for personal funtime. So my answer will have to be the 1" Ivotal, with a pocketful of the 2", 2.8", and 4". Not exactly the most up to date mechanics, but a nice set of tiny primes that cover S35 with lovely images.

Fine, I'll show you crazy. Take the Canon 50-1,000 Cine zoom, clamp the monitor to the matte box, screw/bolt the shoulder pad to the lens support foot and the Komodo can hang off the back of the lens for counterweight ;-}. 19mm Titanium iris rods recommended, might be difficult to park in small spaces :)

I like the way this man thinks.

One that does not exist yet.

A 28mm native RF Mount with autofocus. (For gimbal work.)

I own the Sigma 24-35, and it’s a nice lens for sure, but I kick myself every day for not getting the 24-70mm f/2.8. I recommended that one to a client recently, and the zoom range is so useful. For me, the 24-70mm covers about 80-90% of my shooting scenarios. Since this thread is about “one single lens,” I’d go for the 24-70 to have a much more useful zoom range, and still have the Sigma Art quality.

I need light, sharp and zoom, so I'll probably opt for one of the Canon f/4L set. 24-70 f/4L IS actually looks quite sharp in tests. With a speedbooster on it could be a nice f/2.8 option.

I like the looks of the Laowa. Especially if it could be paired with a screw on wide angle adapter to take it down to 14mm or so.

Do I get the PL adapter? If so:

Prime: Mini Hawk 40mm (or maybe C-series for true anamorphic)
Zoom: Cabrio 19-90

Realistically, my Sigma Art 24-70 is probably gonna live on it. Best bang for the buck, those Sigmas. Perfect for lightweight low-cost kits.

Zoom: Cabrio 19-90

Where is that drooling emoji?

Anyway, the Art Series F2 Zooms sound perfect, as does the Canon RF F2 Zoom line.
Hard to choose between the EF Sigmas with the RF-EF adapter with the built-in ND or the Canon RF Zooms with stabiliser.

Heh, the drools all on my chin :) But just as much for the Hawk!

I haven't used the RF Canon's but the Sigma Arts look way more cinematic than the Canon L's, to my eye. The 50-100 breathes like a mofo though. It's practically unusable.

The best lens for Komodo would be the Panavision 19-90mm... too bad they only rent!!!!
