  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If you could only have 1 lens to pair with your Komodo, which would it be?

I ordered a Canon RF 24-105L for everyday general use. But i'd love to get some Leica M glass, I don't kmpow much about the mount set ups. is there an RF to M adaptor out there or an RF lens mount change out option?
 
I was excited to try the Canon RF 24-70 2.8 on my Komodo, testing the image stabilization and the minimal breathing... I didn't expect it to not work at all, I couldn't even change the aperture, I'd just assumed when they say they hadn't programmed it in they meant some other features like the new click ring, not basic functionality.

Anyone's guess when the firmware will be updated to support RF lenses?

Yes, RF control needs to be supported, otherwise, you can't communicate with the lens.

Have you tried the RF 15-35mm. I've been looking at the Tokina cine zoom 11-20, but I get so much more in terms of AF functionality with the RF 15-35mm so it would be nice to see some demo shots with that lens.
 
Is there any news regarding RF lens support?

On the EF side - My Sigma 24-70 Art zoom still has no IS support and the autofocus bounces all over the place.

I'm returning a Canon RF lens today that I'd hoped to use on the Komodo the last month, but have given up on waiting for support.
 
I'm going to throw a wildcard into the mix, the Vazen 40mm T2 1.8x RF Anamorphic. I know a prime and on top of that, Anamorphic doesn't make it the most versatile option, but during the last couple of weeks, I've struggled to go back to my spherical lenses. Just waiting on some Close Up filters from Russia, and I get the feeling this lens will live on my Komodo for any shoot where I have a say on the look.

Funny...I was going to mention that lens too. 40mm is such a neat focal length on a sensor this size, and the anamorphic would be fun.

IMO if the question is which "one lens" would you have on anything, built into that question is the assumption that this is a special use case tool were talking about here, which if we're being honest the Komodo kind of is anyway. If we're talking about a camera for general purpose shooting you wouldn't be able to achieve that by just one lens, nor likely by the Komodo. Instead you'd probably be looking at Canon Cine series cameras or Sony FX line with an obnoxiously ranged zoom lens along with 10lbs of other crap hanging all over it. That's not how I want to rock Komodo.
 
I'm now waiting on a Komodo and considering a good lens. I tend to like something wide- in the 16-35mm range. (FF equivalent) I currently own a Leica R 28mm Elmarit, Leica M 50mm but was thinking maybe of going for an RF lens. Are the RF working ok now, or should I just stick to EF? If EF was maybe thinking the Sigma 20mm 1.4 (heard the 24mm is no good) any thoughts?

Should add that I'm open to any and all good MF options as well. Just want something compact and sharp, and ideally somewhat fast.

Depending on what/how you shoot, if you go with an EF mount lens, you can use an adapter that allows for a behind the lens ND system like the variable ND adapter from Canon or a turret system with multiple fixed densities like the Revolva.

John: If you're going for something that wide have you looked at the Tokina 11-20 (or older 11-16)? It's superduper and AF.

Way less expensive than the cine, I would imagine the same optical formula and you get AF, but I guess you lose the Cine features.

Yah. Your links are both the same but you get it. Same optics for cine or non-cine. I'd buy an EF version used for a few hundred and stick gears on it if you want. That wide doesn't really demand a lot of intense focus riding.

I did a quick search and this one already has gears for $300:
