  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I want to tell you...

This sounds pretty important to me, so I guess your relegating it to fourth means 1 through 3 are closer to fruition. Now I'm stoked for November 3rd. Thinking it was just a Scarlet announcement left me under-enthused. This little tidbit has piqued my curiosity.

Unless you are playing along

Honestly, this is Jim giving us a dose of our own medicine…(poor bloke) AND I promise you Z-precision from plenotpic type systems… suck and blow chunks (there is basic physics there). This is going to be a rather knarly tree that won’t bear the fruit that people seem to think it will… but oh well, a lot of R&D dollars that will go into systems that can only produce very rudimentary and crude results… [Not vey RED I might add].

I have to admit the guys do have a very crafty sense of humor.. hence a lot of the “ hehehe”s, (it must be a lot of fun at RED).

What else can we start? Honestly I’m not going to “manage” this one… [I should ride a horse and do some work, not sit at a stupid computer terminal slapping my forehead...]

Well played guys...

looking forward to the 3rd...

As I was ordering my Lytros (toy) on Friday, I was wondering how hard that tech would be at 5K & then figured you were already on it.

One thing I will say is that we are working on multiple focus and depth map (think Lytros) but with wicked high resolution... The prototype is incredible. Don't tell Gizmodo or Engadget. :-) Jim

HAHA loved this thread, first time in a while Ive READ an entire thread just to see if he spilled something else, lol... Multiple focus is awesome... no if onl;u we could make it so in final cut, you can set your f/# speed of rack and key frame it, (good bye focus pullers job) lol

Poppycock! ;->

Hope i can get up to Hollywood (Red Studios) on Nov. 3rd with some friends!!

You are the boss...nobody say no !

Good luck on 3rd Nov...

There good news is that everything is upgradeable...

Jim

Don't know if I'm reading too much, but this sounds like THE news.
Scarlet admitted to the Monstro upgrade path? 3k today, 4k tomorrow?

I wonder if they ditched the scarlet body all together... everything is in EPIC body, that way you can later upgrade the scarlet 3k 2/3 sensor to the epic sensor

I like that everything's always back-ordered it makes you feel special when you finally get it.

Wow!!! a RED version of that Lytro would be mind blowing... Imagine experiencing that in video at 28K on a 100' screen with laser projection... Now that is part of the future of RED, albeit probably a few years distant.

Wait!!! he said that was 4th on the list as far as importence....

Need any Mechanical Engineering interns next summer?

I love how Jim and Jarred banter.

If they made a documentary on RED, it should include these two guys' antics online and offline. Uncensored. I can see it now.

JARRED: Hey pussy!
JIM: What did you call me mother F*cker!?
SAMUEL L JACKSON: You heard him.

J & J start fist fight. After a stalemate headlock,

JIM: Hey, let's go mess with some REDUSERS.
JARRED: I'll let you be the cop this time.

J & J high five. Roll credits.

You Guys Are After my own Heart!!!!

I swear I just said this to my buddy the other day!!! If Red develops what Lytros can do? IT IS OVER!!!!!!

GMTA!!!! In your case you guys are thinking way ahead of ME!

THANK YOU!!!!

BTW, JIM thanks for the basic info… without spilling too many of the “good” beans. i.e.

Of… “there is three… “

And upgradeability.

(and the little "Elephant trap" is very funny too..).

This helps us to basically have our clients and close development partners that we need to integrate systems for (that are not that familiar with RED) to transfer funds in advance so that we are ready to pull the trigger (assuming specs vaguely check out). At least there is enough information now we can paint a convincing enough picture to who WE need to convince, that this is worth doing, in preparation.

We should have enough time…

Have fun on the 3rd (how could you not??!!).

THANK YOU,

ERIC

OK, those little tit-bits that Jim eeked now I am insanely excited about the future. You say they are the least important...when they could truly revolutionise the way we work, especially in the effects world. Especially at REDstyle resolution.

Jim

Then my hope is that November 3rd introduces a surprisingly affordable camera (with minimal capabilities), where one can upgrade each bit (whenever they can) to something one would never have dreamed of being able to possess.
