  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I want to tell you...

Also, having a depth matte to the scene gives the posibility to get super good follow focus.With finger tracking on screen or just to have messuraments painted into the shot and focus manually. In the picutrs where you can see our test within this field we took the depth matte from the kinetix and let it paint red lines on every meter in dept onto the live feed from the camera... thats is not a bad thing to have if you are a focus puller.

Also you can extract high detaild 3D models/ point clouds from the kinetix. And the Kinetix is a toy with way low resolution and cost 100USD in the game shop. I think if RED picks up this thread then it will not be toy resolution and the result will be better.

Another thing possible wheb having a highress depth mattes is that you can change your depth of focus and focus point in post. In other words you can shoot super sharp and then add depth to the shot later and set your focus point later. This is primarily something people scream for when shooting stereo. But also for post reasons and many other things. We are currently selling a software for nuke and 3DSMAX that does post focus with this kind of depth mattes it renders super fast and handles edges, and other things, better than the rest. see: http://www.syndicate.se/Default.aspx?Id=313

So yes, Put on a IR depth camera underneat the PL mount on the epic and see the competition go bye bye.. It does not have to cost much, if microsoft does it for 100USD for the games then you guys could do a good one for even less.

High-res depth mattes would be a huge boon to ultra-accurate camera tracking.

And when you've made it possible for the viewer of the image stream to choose the part of the footage to act as their main focus, that's when you OWN the leading edge of imaging technology.

He’s pulling our leg in response to “wild speculation”… [read fun Decoy]… I sincerely doubt they would go to the trouble to build such a superb “Elephant Trap”.

I don’t know what it is… for some reason its Aussies on REDUSER that really strike a chord with me. I’ve been all over the world and yet I have not made it to Australia yet. THIS IS I MUST DO.

It's pretty obvious that Jim is sending us the necessary message of: "stop trying to figure out what we are doing simpletons". The vari-focus thing is just a funny way of him letting us know that everything technical is well in hand. I think it's awesome that he is stepping in to put a lid on the ridiculous HYPE we are creating in these forums. Jim will deliver the goods that will change the industry forever. Canon will look like fools and really should fold their hand right now! They will go the way of Arri - bitch slapped and hurting.

My bet: Jim will announce that Scarlet is ready to deliver in massive quantity November 4th. That would shut up the doubters and complainers about RED backorders etc for good. Let's get this fight started!

Man, I doze off for a few hours and wake to discover focus pulling may soon be obsolete ... and all I wanted was Cheerios for breakfast!! Well that's just great Red, time to go shoot something with my vintage follow focus. :smilewinkgrin:

This sounds pretty important to me, so I guess your relegating it to fourth means 1 through 3 are closer to fruition. Now I'm stoked for November 3rd. Thinking it was just a Scarlet announcement left me under-enthused. This little tidbit has piqued my curiosity.
