Hello to everyone at RedUser, My name is Don. I am an Independent filmmaker whose experience goes as far as the DVX and film. I am new to HD and I am an absolute novice at the whole concept of the Red and the workflow, hence I have been here a lot the past few days. I was recently been introduced to the camera by a friend of mine, who had just rented the camera. We did a of of test shots and after shooting for a few days at 4k we decided to look at what we shot on a HD monitor (720p). We are running a quad core mac 2.66 and 2 gigs of ram. Not a heavy machine or monitor, but it should be enough right?
Anyway we used Red Cine to view, lightly color correct, and output quicktime files at Apple prores 422 HQ at 1080. For some odd reason, red alert consistently and faithfully crashed every single time, while RedCine was a rock. Didn't expect that, after reading these boards for a while. The footage we saw looked great in final cut. I was really starting to become a believer until...we attempted to burn the footage to disk. Ok in all fairness we did use a STANDARD definition disk. we do not have access to a Blu ray burner. The end result.....Horrible footage....digital lines....just stuff that I would not show anyone.
Can anyone answer me this one question. How can I get what I see on my HD Television and computer screens, to look like that on a DVD or other medium? Like I said, the footage that came from red cine and in final cuut was BEAUTIFUL. The footage on the DVD....not This is the dilemma that we have been having. Yes I know it's probably a simple question, but it's been kicking us in the shins for days now. What good is all this wonderful footage, if the only way we can view it is through our computer? Sure, I could post a few clips on the net and they would be as stunning as any other filmmaker using the Red, but what about being able to output this to a DVD. How do you do it without it looking.....well...pixilated? I will appreciate and take all of your help into account. Thanks Red Users!
