Hey!

I need to shoot a statue shattering into a million pieces in very slow motion. My question is regarding the material. Most of the statues I've seen are made out of polyresin, or a kind of resin (alabastrite). Does anyone have experience with this material or can recommend another material I should be looking at that breaks/shatters more spectacularly?

Thanks

Plaster or ultracal would give you the brittleness you need to shatter. Clear the area though, the pieces won't be friendly like a foam version!

They did the T1000 in T2 with a hollow shell filled with "metal shards" so when it smashed it didnt look empty.

Looked great on film.

If it's small dipping it in liquid nitrogen will help a huge amount with the brittleness.

Ask me how I know...

hmmm, so if the statue is polyrescin (about 24" tall), and I dip it in LN2, would it make it brittle? Would it mess with the paint job?
