  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I love...

i really appreciate what you guys have curated here. the 'literature' of this living library has awakened my eye. i hope you guys can put up with that while i try to find the sacred formula where thought turns to action... jim, you can go when your portion of wisdom has been properly embedded.

Man with vision are rare. Vision and guts even more so.
You have inspired, conquered, and pushed envelopes.
You have changed the game in a way where in never will be the same.

Peace. ///

I might ad that a Sci-Tech Academy Award should already have been given to RED, certainly there is no denying this for any length of time. You have and continue to lead, others follow - steps behind.

I'm 44 years old but I'm like a little boy when it comes to this stuff. So Jim J, you are not the only one.

My father is 82 years old and he's learned how to use a computer pretty well and he now wants an Iphone even though he can't read anything on a screen that small.

Keep your minds young by constantly learning and pushing yourself!

Jim mash the hammer to the floor and keep motoring on down the road. The future can't get here fast enough.
The roar you hear is not just the wind rushing by, its us in the back seat cheering you on.

I'm really excited to see what kind of surprises you guys have in store for us.

Jim you have shaken up the cinema shooting world and it benefits all. Even Sony and Arri shooters have benefited by the price competition.

Keep on doing what you do and then sit on your beach smoking Cubans with your family.....

I am grateful to the fact that you thought the way you did Jim, not as a camera or equipment manufacturer but as a fellow filmmaker.
It has changed the way I work and film. NOBODY TODAY CAN TELL ME I FILM ON FORMAT, that they do not except because it is off
inferior quality. I have a good laugh regularly when I see all the guys use red cameras now to film natural history if they can get one.
My ride started in 2008.
Humbled and Grateful.

thanks for this inspiring and timely post Jim... as Im now getting sued for buying into 4K (if u can fucking believe that)... I cant tell you how much this community is going to help our defense and counter suit. Thank you all for your posts and tenacity in the face of so much adversity and ignorance... and thank you Jim and TEAM RED for pushing the envelope... just as we all do in our own corners of the world...

When pioneering new ground I always take comfort in Einstein's words

be careful with that combustion: it's power is creative and destructive. (tend or fight fire)

i'm all for embracing danger, just make sure you know when it's time to get out of the fire. (see futurist manifesto - a warning)

this is an amazing community... jim and jarred - you have kept us from slipping off the track. spectacular scenery popping up here and there when we look.

power is balanced in beauty.

A couple of years ago while returning home on a flight from NAB, a "company man" said you guys would be dead in another two years.
An airline seat was not the place to engage an argument and it was best to suffer fools gladly.

Despite his opinion, I've now found that these types of people will at least concede that you've made a difference to the industry.
That to me is another milestone for Red.

It upsets me when called a fanatic for loving this stuff without owning the camera. Its so much fun watching you guys help people with unique dreams at the highest level rather than conform to the norm. My food & wine…Oh and Sodastream to any crazy reduser/dreamer that comes to my island.

that's quite an offer... :) i think life's too short to be upset for any amount of time.

Jim is in amazing mood these days!!!

That sounds absolutely fantastic!!!

This could be a good sign that RED is working hard right now on new sensor specifications that should deliver best image quality (IQ) between all existing digital cinema camera systems.

Anyway Epic with MX is still best digital camera system today but just in a case if you know what you are doing with it.

Also recently other systems have got pretty close to Epic with their price and performance that even some of them took advantage with a certain innovation...

So today at early 2013 it's a right time to move Epic things forward and again raise the bar...

In this case let me give you some of my free consulting ideas…

1. Image Quality (IQ)

- If usable Dynamic Range (DR) is between 14.5 and 18+ stops of DR that would be really amazing!!!

- If usable Color Depth (CD) or bit depth is really in between High Colour (15/16-bit) and True Colour (24-bit) that would be something absolutely fantastic!!!

No more any hassle or colour shift in grading process especially with Caucasian skin tones!!!

2. New lens mounts

- Extended use of Leica M lenses wide than 50mm that means do something to get sensor hole window rounded to accept the protruding lens elements closer to OLPF glass…

- RED did already Canon and Nikon electronic lens mount.

Now maybe it's a right time to make new Leica S mount for use of the latest Leica CS-version lenses on Epic Dragon 6K!!!

Also don't forget that the original

LEICA S-ADAPTER H ENABLES THE USE OF HASSELBLAD H-LENSES.

Photographers would be really happy with that option!!!

3. New zoom lenses

- Leica discontinued Leica R lenses several years ago.

But recently vintage Leica R lenses have got so popular to use across RED1/Epic/Scarlet community.

So could be it's a right time to get in kind of an official partnership with Leica (maybe via Band Pro contact) and try to get for example "cinevized" three extraordinary

Leica R vario zooms (21-35mm, 35-70mm and 70-180mm) or to do something very similar as Carl Zeiss did with their latest FF35mm zooms offers…

Those three Leica R optically extraordinary and also lightweight FF35mm zooms would provide full usable focal range from 21mm wide to 180mm tele and also will cover Epic Dragon 6K frame circle perfectly!!!

They should be all labeled "Made in Germany" by Leica (and also RED Digital Cinema) and without involvement of a kind of risk with Japanese uncertain environmental and climate issues.
