  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I have seen the future of RED GLASS....

We expect to have some glass available for sale at NAB. If not for delivery right away then within weeks after the show.

And who says the RED One's Super-35 sized sensor is the only one you'll see glass for...

Do you mean Abel-brand glass?

And with regards to RED primes, I would also say that 18 is a minimum for wide angle - I often want a 14, sometimes even a 12 or 10.

Y'all can find out in April.

Unless someone let's me leak it first.

Mitch if you are referring to IBE it's not much of a secret... You can now feel free to leak prices and delivery dates and even arrange a preview.

I am quite fed up with waiting on people or companies that promise lens sets and then don't or can't deliver and I won't wait until NAB if a decent new set becomes available.

gagged by NDAs

we are all gagged by Non Disclosure Agreements. But once we see the OEM lenses at NAB, unfortunately without the much needed 18 or 16 mm, we are off the hook!

But what is "low cost"? When you see that Canon can make a quality 1.4 50mm for under $400, I gotta figure that someone could make a PL mount with better housing and still turn a profit in the sub $1500 range.

The problem is volume Sawn, even if every Red owner bought a set it wouldn't interest Nikon or Canon. They consider a lens selling less than 100K units a failure. The optics in those still lenses are fantastic but the mechanics are not up to professional cinema standards. Even the ZFs which are as close as is currently available new are a far cry from a true cinema grade barrel. These IBE's look very interesting, we'll have to see how they handle the demand, that'll be most important, I'm sure they'll perform but they'll be about 5K a lens for the standard focal lengths, more for the super wides and teles..

Boy that's a pretty render. To bad it's just that a render.

Now if there was only a place I could go where I could touch such a lens and look through it ... And maybe some other lenses as well...

See you in April!

Haha...totally giving it away now! Have YOU looked through and touched these lenses and "other" lenses already Mitch? :shifty:

I agree.. I dont know why everyone is going area 51 on equipment!

As soon as I am allowed to officially say something I will happily do so. In the meantime please know that there will be some new optics shown at NAB. Optics in the Abel booth and at least a couple others that I know of. There are numerous reasons why I cannot be more specific with one of them being that we do not know what will be done in time.
