  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I got the email confirmation!!!

I got two FedEx tracking updates for shipments from Red that got shipped today and are supposed to arrive on Monday. One of them weighs 22.4lbs and the other weighs 1.0lbs. We have an order for a case and a couple of other very small items and an order with some 12" rods in addition to our camera order, but unless the case weighs close to 20lbs (note: ;)) I think we may be getting our Scarlet-X on Monday!

Pelican cases are heavy, but good luck and let us know.

You're right. I just did a search for the Pelican 1510 case and it weighs around 13lbs with foam (presumably a little less with some of the foam laser cut for the gear). I cannot imagine the camera and the accessories that we purchased will weigh about 10lbs. They must weigh more than that. I mean, I know that the Scarlet-X is small, but that's pushing it. Needless to say, I hope that we are both wrong in this case. :)

Isn't it ironic that after so much waiting and so much technology involved we have to pay attention to package weights ?

very exciting nick! One of the first around town i bet to receive. I should get my support gear order soon, as thats paid and sent off but scarlet is tough to say for a date, patiently optimistic right now. Update when you know, enjoy the weekend long torture until monday :)

from what I can tell they just got through PL orders and starting on the "300"

They opened a new lane around the 23rd then Thanks Giving put a hug buffer. To my calculations I'd say if your in the 50900-52000 its bound to ship some time late next week to possibly Mon(12)-Wed(14). Again thats my head at work but it could be relevant.

Well - I hope you're right because I'm one of the 300, and My scarlet-X (AL-EF) is SO50865

I'm hoping for next week too. Got a 4am call on the 11th for a teaser trailer and I'd love to get two days of testing prior to the shoot if possible followed by a VFX shoot later that week. Did some light tests on an Epic today to attempt to get comfy.

I'm having a custom cage/rig machined that should be done Thursday-ish. Sourced rental 128GB REDMAGs and some external power solutions also for rental. In talks to shoot on two pilots for January and there's a few other VFX shoots incoming. Scarlet will also serve as A cam for a feature I'm shooting in April. Extremely exciting times.

Getting ready for war. Just need my gun.

Are people getting their side handles from scarlet packages?!? Still awaiting the one we ordered for our first X.

Brent any final word on wether SO reflects "place in line" (event attendance notwithstanding...)???

Thanks, Daniel! I honestly don't know for sure if it's coming on Monday, but if it is then we are going to have to rent some PL lenses for tests. We own canon glass, but wanted both a Ti PL mount and a Ti Canon mount so we figured that we would order the camera that's shipping out first so as to receive it as early as possible.

ahh, Bob beat me to it =]. Nick my 17-50 Red lens here if you ever want to test.

And you have ordered to huh Bob, I remember seeing your name from DVX. I too have moved to Scarlet. Seems like last year all over again when we were waiting on Panasonic.

Just a little update!

Got my shipping confirmation today.

Should be here in Monday Dec. 5th!

LOL. Yes I have a RED on order but my Panasonic is not going anywhere. For me, it will still be the bread winner for a while :-)

Very cool Michael!

I am not sure yet, i might have to sell for some extra money for this, but yeah not jumping on that yet. As everyone gets their cameras, we should have a Scarlet (or Red) meet up in Toronto. Shoot around, learn from everyone, could be a fun day. perhaps once the cameras some in, and weather is better.

That would be really great. I actually have zero experience shooting with a Red (to this point most of my experience is with film with some work on DSLRs and Panasonic camcorders) and I am a director, rather than a camera operator so it would be great to pick the brains of some more knowledgeable people. Learning how others use Red cameras for their work can only serve to give us all more perspective which will hopefully lead to refinements in our own workflows. I've been trying to learn what I can through the various documentation that is available online, but some face-to-face dialogue with you guys who are old hands with Red cameras would be great.

I should have mine by tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest and I'm in the Toronto area as well (Hamilton) but shoot probably 4-5 times a week in Toronto for www.southernsouls.ca

My first experience with RED too, but my cousin has a RED one I've at least held haha. I'm usually on the Panasonic HPX170 and 5D

A Toronto meetup would be great :)

awesome guys, i guess as more of us get them maybe in the new year we can arrange something. It would be a great way to meet fellow filmmakers and red users in the area, and a fun day to shoot the town! Good luck this week on receiving your cameras.
