  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I feel a little better about not knowing the release date....

Well like many of you, I have been saving up for a Scarlet (and am still saving up at that), and often times I would get "restless" waiting for a release date. I would read as people kind of harangued Jim for more details and picked apart the small announcements, etc. Mind you I used to be like that as well.

Then I went to see Transformers 2.....

As I watched that movie, I realized what happens when people are release happy.... Was it one of the worst movies ever? Absolutely not...however you can tell when things were looked over and rushed. Especially in scenes where there were transformations.

I remember in the first film you could see every nut, every bolt, move and reset, in this one many scenes were kind of nebulous. I believe this was partly in fact due to its being 2 hours and 30 minutes, and them trying to fit a plethora of heavy CGI based scenes, and meet a release date....

I know this may be somewhat :beatdeadhorse5: due to RED's new disclosure policy, but for all the other future Scarlet owners out there look at it this way: Its better they take their time and release a product up the RED caliber (like the RED ONE for example), than try to rush things for a consumer base and end up with a transformers 2....

Plus more time to save :hurray:

Mr. Vera I salute you. That was a wonderful post, and I agree completely.

You guys are all crazy :) Transformers 2 was a good movie. Even the wife enjoyed it. No it wasn't a theatrical masterpiece but it gave me what I wanted out of a summertime blockbuster. And Scarlet needs a release date or they can call it Scarlet FOREVER. ooohhhhh ok that was a low blow.

3k in the year 3k hahahaaaahahhaaaa. Someone has to think that is funny. As always us prosumers are a moody bunch. Just today actually you had to buy a camera with 1/2 inch sensor for more than 5k. You can see why some people here can be a little frustrated. Some folks are saying hmm 2/3 scarlet or hpx170. Or hmmm EX3 or S35 scarlet. Even better hmmm Big slow film camera or one of those Epic cameras.

So we are waiting for this revolution we heard so much about. Red One ok that is great but that is just another pro camera that scarlet buyers can't own. So push it real good and give us a play date with the Scarlet!

*raises hand*

I've basically resolved myself to buying a scarlet over an HPX, but there really is a deadline to it. If scarlet isnt released before march/april of next year i really dont have much of a choice in the matter. The project i want it for absolutely must be shot in the summer.

*keeps fingers crossed*

I feel the same as many of you. I am still pretty young, and just about to get into the film industry. I am waiting for the Scarlet due to its modular nature, and its stellar performance (on paper, and from what I've seen from other RED), as that's the equipment I want to start on.

That being said I don't know how happy I'd be if they released it sooner with a bunch of bugs and I spent the first 5 months waiting for firmware updates, etc.

So part of me is happy they are taking their time. Plus with the four options, i think while many of us WANT it to be available, few of us know which one we are actually going to get haha

Next summer, yes, but not this summer.

I tend to agree, I think it will be out BEFORE next summer but most definitely not in time to for this summer. I mean if it comes out in 3 weeks, by the time you order it, get it, acclimate, etc its going to be end of summer if summer isn't already over.

no one will wait forever for Scarlet, competitors will take the chance on the slow process.

I'm not an engineer nor do I even work in a tech industry, but this just strikes me as ignorant. No offense. Take a look at all the Red team has done since the company's inception and tell us again how slowly they work. I just can't believe it. Again no offense intended, I just think some perspective is required.

:iagree: If you just take a second and look back to some of the original threads you will see how far Jim and the RED team have come. They came from a micro company (which was doubted by everyone), to a more established camera company that is shaking up the competition forcing competitors to reevaluate their lineups (pricing as well), I think they have come a long way.

I don't think they are just playing paper football at the RED facilities while we wait, I think they are trying to get it closest to perfection as possible.

I still think we will see S35 and 2/3" models available by the end of this year if they don't have serious bugs in the new electronics.

I'm hoping so, I feel like a kid who got his constant update privileges revoked heh

Well, lets look at it realistically, RED has to stay *hot* like they are right now.

If the next NAB comes along and they still havent rleased something they announced at LAST YEARS NAB then it will NOT make the compnay look good in the eyes of potential customers...for any young company, even one as important to the industry as RED has been, "cooling off" like this can be deadly.

So i'm pretty well willing to BET that the DSMC system will be fully available by the next NAB

When is that again?

I think your right, I'm sure they know to a certain extent that at the very LEAST it has to be done by NAB or else they will be unveiling the same product.

And I believe dates are 04-09-10 , 04-15-10
