I am so SICK of 24 FPS film snobs. "The Hobbit" was shot with the finest cameras in the world (Red Epic) at the highest data rate possible. >3X better than any ESPN broadcast or the best moving images you've ever seen. It will blow you away. Peter Jackson and his Red team deserve the highest praise for this technical and artistic achievement.

Don't we have to see it before we declare an artistic achievement?

. . . clearly not a requirement for some to award the prize for Best Movie Ever Made. Really guys, calm down and breath . . . Post will fix it.

What I don't understand is: WTF was going through PJ and crew's mind to release what was clearly work product to the critical masses??? Peter baby . . . you new at this or what?? Now everyone will be looking for the technical issues - rather than being taken away on a mystical journey. That was a major strategic fail IMHO and has nothing to do with RED or 48fps. Whoever is in charge of PR and hype in Hobbitville . . . shoot them.

Before this gets ugly (the title of the thread is a bit aggressive) I think it's best to just acknowledge that people see the world differently, and even two top tier DPs will not necessarily agree on 3D, lighting approaches, lenses, etc. Like others, I'm waiting to see this new approach for myself, and although I am one of those who does enjoy good old 24fps 2D films, I am going into this with optimism because I want to see them succeed.

Nah, PJ is excited and doing what he has always done... Sharing that excitement with us. It may not have been tactically wise in retrospect from a technical standpoint, but I say keep on PJ!

BTW, that sneak peak was presented to theater owners as a necessary sales pitch to get them to go along with the upgrades required to exhibit the film the way it is intended to be seen. So I guess I was wrong. He wasn't so much sharing it with everyone. That's just a byproduct of social media on the 'net.

No such thing as bad press. People are going to flock to this like avatar, and avatar's story was pretty lame (it's visual story telling was hot though.) Complain all they want, no one is going to boycott or skip this movie because of its 48p.
