Hi everyone first let me say that everything I am saying has nothing to do with the people where I bought the camera and with the great guys at Red UK my concerns are about my experience with the camera...so...let's start....

I got the camera few weeks ago and after few hours I got it I saw that the side panel (where is the ssd) was moving I filmed and send to red and they told me to send the camera back.
Then on the lower side of the monitor was an internal stain, it looks like oil, I send them the pictures and they ask me to send the monitor back too...

So today arrives Fedex and give me the case...naked...no box around (keep in mind that I sent the case in a box very well packed) and obviously the case was full of scratches, terrible, and also the wors thing was that it was sealed only with two simple security lace, which are very easy to remove with a scissors....I call them and I have to say they was shocked about that too, so they ask me to send it back the case.....I will do tomorrow.....

Then I started to use the camera, in plug, no battery, and after 30 minutes it shot down by itself....very strange, now it looks ok nut this worried me a lot as if happen during shuting Im screwed!

Then I plug the mic and the headphone I went in the menu and it was impissible to control the slider of both..nothing...so I had to restart the camera and eventually worked....

Then after 20 min the camera was on the monitor has started to be horrible hot! Im not kidding I almost burned my finger on it, was impossible to touch...wow....

Now...what else I need to aspect? I am coming from years shooting with canon cinema professional and I know you cant compare the two, Red does incredible things and I love them...but...the idea to be insicure of what is goign to happen during a filming it makes me feel terrible. I dont understand how a huge company like Red can't fix all this problems before release the cameras?? I just want something reliable that's it! I love the color science in Red, I love the multiple things you can do but....I dont like to feel anxious about filming, I am almost there to ask my money back...but in the same time I really would LOVE to be a Red owner...

Sorry for this long message but I needed to do, I trust in the guys in Red, they have been suoer good with me included the guys at at cvp. I really hope some good thing happen that makes me love this camera again....

thanks

Luca, if the camera is getting so hot you might need to check the fan settings. What I take from reading your complaint you may need to explore a few things about your new ecosystem. I hope there´s nothing wrong with your camera, though. Have fun!

Hi Ulf is on adaptive and on 38 as it should be and is the monitor becoming very hot, impossible to touch.
i understand I am new to this ecosystem but these are issues to me....btw is the Scarlet W

Hmm, sorry to hear, mate. Make sure you keep an eye on the temperature of the camera for a while, adaptive especially in combination with quiet recoding can cause higher temps when doing longer takes. Also perform a calibration at your targets. Strange that the display is getting this hot, it doesn´t sound right to me and unfortunately may be subject to another checkup which indeed should not happen. Hope you get that sorted soon. All the best!

Really sorry to hear that Luca, it sounds like you got a bad batch. I haven't heard of many cases of RED sending out a bad batch of cameras, I'm personally loving my Scarlet-W. I'm sure they will straighten things out for you, I'd call your rep about it

I really hope I dont need to send the camera back again, but I will prefer to wait even a month or two and to have something Perfect!
the secting of the fan are on adaptive not quite recording and the blackshading has been done. I send email to the guys hopefully they will soon tell me something. I love this camera and I would LOVE to shot with it, is just that this issues are really disappointing :-(

Hang in there Luca. I know it must be very frustrating right now, but I'm sure RED will sort it all out and help you get everything going with your new Scarlet-W. I also have a Scarlet-W and it's an awesome camera to work with!

If I'm reading your notes correctly, perhaps it's the monitor, rather than the camera that has an issue. If you have access to another monitor, I'd see how that goes before sending the whole camera back again. Buona fortuna.

Cheers - #19

The 4.7" does get extremely hot from what I recall. The 7" doesn't get anywhere near that hot so it must be something with the 4.7" hardware

The afternoon that I had a Raven to play with, the 4.7" screen got very hot as well. Not sure it's a "problem" per se...

All, have noted this thread and alerted sustaining engineering and tech support.

Thanks Brent! The guys at Red UK are doing the best they can, but honestly after two times sending the camera back I realy want a new one now, it looks like mine is already battle tested!!!

ps. The monitor it shouldn't be so hot, remember guys that inside the electronincs can easy be damaged by this hit, is not normal...

I guess what I'm saying is that your hot monitor may not be unusual for that product. Whether it proves to be a problem or not is another matter entirely.

Hi Luca,
I’m sorry to see that you’re having issues with your SCARLET-W and 4.7" LCD.

The Technical Support team at RED would like to help you resolve this issue. Please submit a Technical Support request on support.red.com and attach the log file from this camera. We will forward the log file information to our Engineers for further analysis.

HI Brad, just message you thanks.

ps. I am still doing some tests, the monitor is impossible to use....incredibly hot, fan goes after 20 min the camera is in stan by. I have done everything I can, but nothing... :-(

ever since day 1 (june 5th serial #0740) that I received my scarlet-w I too have noticed that my 4.7 LCD runs extremely hot. The LCD at times is so hot when I touch it. Especially the BACKSIDE. hotter than any other RED LCD i have ever used. I have assumed after looking here on reduser that it was just normal. Update: Noticing my firmware was from May I updated it to the latest one this morning before my shoot, I'll keep you posted if I'm still experiencing that problem after today's shoot
