  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HyperDeck Shuttle Shuttle.. Record the 5K sensor Scarlet

Matt that looks great!! Do you record log to the Samurai, or do you feed it RC3 RG3? And you are right about the noise being better. This is a great option in certain situations.. I'm very happy!

I've been so busy I haven't really sat down to troubleshoot further, but here's a pic of the loose shielding. Maybe I just need to get a new SDI cable to get this working, but as of now, I do not get a video feed through it.

Mike: It's been graded....but nothing special (no secondaries). Thanks!

John: Shot exporting RAW view (320ISO, 5500K, RC3/RG3) to the Samurai, cheers :)

Whoa, how very odd. I had this exact same problem on the exact same port. I could put the connector back on and get video through, though. I sent it in to BMD and they fixed it (I was within a year of purchase, barely.)

Edit: further reading this thread I see this is less odd than I thought, sucks that it's such a common occurrence. Wonder if there's an easy way to make these ports more secure (when I wasn't sure if BMD would fix it, I was considering JB Weld or some such)

How are you guys attaching it to your rig/camera?

Mine comes today...I suppose I'll need to buy the cheeseplate for it as well.

I also had this happen. I sent it in and had it back in a couple days all fixed. I am wondering if there was something we can do that makes it more secure. Terry West can fix it locally in LA, he says a rental house that uses them send them in to get fixed all the time.

Heads up guys, those SDI connectors that stick out is a bad design. My SDI In is bent and busted now. Not sure if there's a quick fix for this. Is the HDMI quality worse (image-wise) than the SDI connection? I might consider selling my HyperDeck unit at a discounted price if that's the case.

For what it's worth, I'm in exactly the same boat as Jason, interestingly enough with the exact same cable. Not sure whether I'm ready to blame the cable ouright, could certainly just be coincidence, but it's a bummer all the same. Have to take the HyperDeck out of service was a good reminder of how nice and svelte the Scarlet can be without all the pieces hanging off, but that being said, I'm very disappointed that the input connector broke so easily. Has anyone dealt with BlackMagic for repairs before? Price/turn around time?
Thanks,

-Harry

Hey Guys so the same thing finally happened to me. I opened up the shuttle took out the board and soldered the piece together.. Now it's perfect! If you are looking to do this, it's a pretty easy fix. I went to my local home depot and bought a pen torch, some Flux, and solder.. spent $20 bucks. When taking apart the shuttle be very careful beacause there is Flat cable that bends very easy and the contacts will break if it's bent too much. Once the board is out take some sand paper and sand where you want the solder to stick, clean off the dust, add some flux to the sanded area, apply heat and solder. The DIN piece is made of brass. Here's a nice tutorial I found on youtube for soldering brass. Hope this helps you guys with broken SDI ports.
