I have decided to purchase this product based on the reviews of others and the research I have done. I already have my approved 512 SSD drive.

I called BMD but the sales rep was not much help to my detailed questions. sO I figured I would reach out to the guys on the front line.

Can those who are currently using the REd + BMD combo please give me some help?

Links to the cables that they are using to connect Red HD-sdi to BMD HD-sdi?

Also if you would chime in regarding any bugs, workarounds or general need to knows that a new owner of the hyperdeck should anticipate
I would greatly appreciate it.

Reports on the quality of 1080P image off the Scarlet?
Quality of 4K downconverted to 1080P vs. BMD pro res HQ off the SDI output.
Possible: Input SDI to Hyperdeck then output to HDMI and SDI simultaneously?
Timecode recorded properly, or any quirks?
Start and stop record confirmed working via SDI from the Scarlet?
Any news on the .r3d file naming feature being on the next firmware update?
Reports on the Crucial M4 512 SSD with HDS?

Can I take a 12v power off my v-mount battery mount and power this, or is it a proprietary 12v plug?
Does the deck have the ability to format the SSD or does that have to occur when plugged into a computer?

Fastest or most convenient ways you have found to offload files and format disks.

Thanks for any and all help.

Hey Jeff,
here's some links for you...

Cable

Cheese Plate

Also bought this P-Tap wire. it's not regulated but the shuttle will take anything from 12-18 volts. please check the output on your battery/plate.

Also bought this cheap cheese plate. Not sure if you have a baseplate with 15mm rails, but this will allow you to attach your hyperdeck's cheese plate to the ebay cheese plate and use the hyper deck as a counter balance for handheld or just a nice way of rigging it.

This you probably wont need, if you are going SDI but depending on how you mount the hyperdeck the cables will be sticking outward and I don't like the idea of the that.

Can't answer any other questions as I'm picking mine up on sunday. I will tell you that I did some testing yesterday on my external marshall monitor and set the feed to clean and enabled look around. I was able too see the full sensor output which is a good sign! that leaves me to believe that we will be recording a 5k down converted 1080p Pro Res HQ file :yesnod:
Someone please correct me if i'm wrong. Well good luck!

I also have a few questions regarding how the HDS2 will work with my Scarlet:

1. Do you have to use an external monitor in conjunction with the HDS2 in order to output and record the full sensor image on a Scarlet?
2. Will this D Tap cable work with my AB Dionic HCs? http://www.ebay.com/itm/251192565581...84.m1439.l2649 Can I get this cable at B&H?
3. Can you record off speeds to the HDS2? For example 48fps and 60fps. Or can it only record 24fps?
4. Which SSD drives are people buying? Is it better to have multiple smaller capacity drives or one huge one?
5. When recording to Pro Res, will it maintain the same file naming structure as the r3d files? I want to make sure I can easily reconnect to the raw files.

Thanks for the advice!
Mike

this is probably a not very smart question but can the hyperdeck shuttle 2 record different frame rates then what the camera is shooting? so can i shoot 5k 6fps and this thing will record 1080p 30fps? does it record 60fps?

Timecode should be accurate.

Its image quality is great. I record REDLOGfilm to it, and its enough for the cheapo clients.

For those who have purchased and used the HDS2: what's your workflow to conform back to the original raw?

From my experience with mine I can't conform back to anything. Your just getting a 1080P signal into the HS2 with the baked on look of your preference. I tend to roll with a red ssd as well should I need to have repurpose a 3k or 4k version of it. The bad thing about it though is that timecode doesn't seem to pass through. (I shoot time of day) so it basically becomes a re-edit.
