  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hydrogen Question

How come I can no longer see all the items I've purchased from Red on my RED account? I've always been able to see every item I bought now it's all gone........Very strange

... It's going to be a bit of a cluster for us even just administering the discount and every variance or "rule" that we add just adds that much more work to comb through.

So I don't really care about the details... let us just keep it simple and stick it to every serial counts independently. Send us your receipt for the time and one discount per serial number. When a serial number gets used for a discount, it gets crossed of the list. .

Simple. Thank you. Have a nice day. I don't care if its a Houdini or a Titanium or an aluminum that you got for free.

...

I ended up with 17 Hydrogens (including the free ones for Ti delay)... can I execute all those serial numbers at once or will they go into a sort of lotto cage and be drawn out individually?

... the Hydrogens not there ...

Perhaps when Hydrogen became separated from RED, the orders were transferred over to our Hydrogen accounts. I kept a copy of mine so not affected... but if those can't be recovered there may have to be some other way of determining ownership... or at least, possession.

Personally, I think possession should be the determining factor for getting the discount.

You may want to remove those details asuming they are correct. Or is this a nice way of giving somebody else a discount?

Thanks Bart. I did think of that, but doubt anyone would be stupid enough to claim a discount on my phone, that I can prove I have. But maybe best to be cautious.

The Houdini number does not matter. As Jarred already said there will be no priority on Houdini owners vs Titanium or regular Aluminum Hydrogen ones.

You just need the Hydrogen One serial Number, which you can find by going to Settings, About my Phone, Serial Number...

Thanks Ketch. I'll take Bart's advice and keep that number private.

Most welcome Robert,
And yes keeping serial numbers private is probably a good idea :)

Probably a combination of both....

Yes keep it private. We likely will just have an email address to send your name and serial and purchase date to. We will use that list ( privately ) to make sure there are no double dippers on the serial numbers, if two different people email in the same serial we will let both know and if there isn't an agreement between the two then the first to execute will be the one that gets logged.

Another suggestion being tossed around internally is that if 2 people try and claim and there is no resolve then they get to split the discount.

And the strongest opinion from emails I have received over the last few days that the discount should go to whoever has possession, and make people send a photo of them with the phone as a proof of life sort of thing.

So yeah... it's complicated. It's good we are working through this now.

Please show us a pic of the Hydrogen One sex pile.

I have one I found from earlier days I should be able to upload. Apologies for the scattered look of things. The top row is of the 12 original boxes they came in and the rows below contain some, if not all, of the added Als. I actually have 18 as I bought another Ti when the Hydrogen Store was shutting down. Of course it is not eligible for the KOMODO discount. Some of the boxes on the top row are empty but there are still some that have not been opened yet. Of the Tis, only one has been opened and in use, along with my Houdini. I'm including a pic of a layout for an array that I intend to use to shoot Very Large Images. Plan was for multiple 6 cam or 4 cam arrays.

Apologies... I thought I could just copy the pics and paste them... they do not reside at a url... just on my computer. I think I posted a pic once on Holopix or one of the other Social Media apps. I need to get back to some time critical work (diggin a ditch '-) before nightfall. If I get things figured out, I'll post here.

Probably a combination of both....

O.K. thanks...

Guess I'd better get to work on that Lotto Plan... that is, only buy lotto tickets on small jackpots where there are fewer entrants to go against. I shouldn't need a billion dollar jackpot to execute my Hydrogens... a million dollar one should do. '-)

Wow, sure sounds lit a bit of a headache to sort that out!
Yeah, Proof of Life type photos would probably go a long way.

I have a more complicated but potentially foolproof way. Wait till they invent a better fool - I always say...

So, RED Leia Loft only runs on Hydrogen devices, right?
If an app was made available through that channel that probes the system for the device serial, that could very well be correlated to an internal database and generate a single use coupon code.
Once used, that serial is executed.

Question is; who's gonna make such an app...?

EDIT: Hmm... not THAT complicated. Tested the code
android.os.Build.getSerial()
and returns the serial of the device.

Why pretend this is an issue? You know exactly who ordered the phones as it was though RED we placed our orders. Just send an email to the the H1 buyers and offer a limited time discount, the end.

You make it sound so easy :) but unfortunately you are incorrect. Only the pre-orders were RED. Then shortly after we split RED CAMERA off as a separate company and all those orders after that were with Hydrogen., and don't forget there is ATT and VERIZON and TELCEL and all the other places that sold the phone that not even Hydrogen has the info for, and then the entire 2nd hand market and the 3rd hand market and....

It sounds like a migraine coming along. Respect for putting yourself trough that again. Maybe to streamline the process a bit. I think the most of the people that want a Komodo Pre-ordered a Hydrogen. So maybe that list can still come in handy. I get that with RED upgrades the second and third hand market works because you send in the brain for upgrade. I don't think you want a couple of hundred phones hanging around. Maybe we can add the Phone to RED.com account with the serial number? How it works at the moment with your brain. I don't know if that's a feasible idea.

Anyway just want to say thanks for doing this (again).

I think this makes the most sense. Why should people who sell off their phones get the discount while the new owners are out of luck? It should be the current owner of a phone with a pre-order serial number who gets the discount in my opinion. Let people show evidence of ownership through photo and serial number. Never heard of someone getting a discount through a product they previously sold and I think everyone would agree to that logic.

Behold my AL Houdini and TI Hydrogens next to my favorite in-camera double exposure medium format film shot I took on my rolleiflex 2.8f...
