  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Huge haul of stolen camera gear found in Argentina

The news story claims "69 film cameras," but they all look like digital to me...

I think the articles are using "film" in the loose sense. As in "film production" equipment. As in cameras and other equipment used to make "films".

Film production cameras.

Anyone recognize the rental company decal on these ARRI Ultraprimes?

Well, this is just plain insulting to Sound Recordists:

"Argentinian cable news channel TN said the haul included 33 tripods, 224 precision film lenses, 69 film cameras, 82 lights for professional use and two microphones."

Two mics for 69 cameras. Even thieves don't show Sound any respect.

So, presuming the argentinian goverment will probably not be returning these items to the people they were stolen from - how would we be able to get our gear back if it is in this mass of stuff?

barring that, is there an auction to purchase back some of the stolen gear?

I bid $99.95 for the set of Ultra Primes.

If you have the serial numbers or the gear is marked in a way that shows up under inspection with UV light or whatever, you can contact the Argentine government and try to get it back. The best thing to do would probably be to contact the US State Department and have them wrangle it through diplomatic channels, as they can probably get the ball rolling very quickly.

AIAF Cinema is the logo on the UP lens. No record of any such company on the Internet, so it may be the illegal front or a company that doesn't really exist beyond in-country physical stuff.
