  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

And how about exporting apple pro res? this is a key feature the sticks me
with apple. One other thing is windows interface, "workaround OS" i rather wait adobe get into the linux than moving to windows infected world. U still can get lots of horse power using mac pro combined with the right hardware. The internal readers look great though.

Agreed. Jim, I'm sure that you could have a chat with him? Or that they would read a personal email from the founder of one of the most respected cameras, codecs and overal system in the cinema industry? We small fish don't know or have no access, but I'm sure you could have a frank talk about our concerns? It's business, all right, but often pure, honest forward thinking share of concerns and ideas can really put everything on a correct path...
 
Really, all you'd have to do is direct Tim Cook to this thread and have him spend a little bit of time reading through it. I think he'd get the picture and realize that Apple needs to do something and soon if they don't already have it planned.

What Apple needs to do is have a place where professionals can go to talk to Apple designers and engineers to make direct product and feature requests and to inquire about specific things. Adobe has that, with reps on various internet forums including right here on Reduser. Blackmagic Design and AJA do that on Creative Cow. And there's others I'm not thinking of off the top of my head.

Apple is the #1/#2 most valuable company in the world right now and has more money than the US government. Surely they could afford to have an additional few employees to act as liaison to the pro community. That would go a long way, even if they don't reveal specific product plans that would compromise their competitive edge, but to at least let pros know they care and are listening and at least give us an idea of what's to come or that something is coming. And I'm sure it would result in more sales and more money for Apple than they'd pay those employees.

For all of you that care.. you should send him an email. Trust me.. I would love for Apple to come back into the game.

But in the meantime.. we need to take a moment to appreciate companies like HP and ADOBE , who still show up for our biggest industry events, who still listens to what we want, and who still builds what we need.

She lives in the Georgia O'Keeffe desert zone of no tech support for a 3 day ride. Her remote and creative lifestyle does not allow for machines that think like Bill Gates, were designed by a dude at Dell and supported by the Geek Squad.

The truck I might drive for work doesn't preclude me from having a convertible I enjoy personally.

And incidientally, if you want to be pedantic, the "technical underpinnings" of OS X (UNIX - c. 1969) are older than that of Windows (Post-VMS c. 1989).

Seriously. Each camp has its strength.

Windows has through trial-by-fire become the leader of integration with third party hardware/software.

Apple has through being-a-controlfreak become the leader of innovative product design.

Not to say both don't have elements of the other, and aren't learning from each other (Microsoft Surface, people) but they are leaders in their specific realm for a reason.

Now, RED IMHO, is the first company I'm seeing that is trying to do BOTH. Innovative and appealing (subjective, ofcourse) product design, that still has the ability to interface with third party 'developers'.

If I had to pick, I'd pick ability to integrate as I have no issues digging into my tools. Updating RED firmware isn't scary. Its a JOY as I'm getting more for nothing. ;)

Hehe... same as with R3D Code on FCPX ... I already did. And I'll keep pushing as long as I can.

And, I started working with Premiere again after what? 10 years? But I'll just use it if there's no other way ... hehehe
Bless Adobe for what they did, curse Adobe for what they did. I just don't care too much for monopolies... at least if I'm not involved.

By the time Apple does something it will be way too late as many Professionals would have jumped shit by then and once you jump it doesn't make professional sense to go back to a company who takes so long to respond to professional needs.

For me no matter what they say they are working on I call BS... look at what they did with SHAKE and how in 2006 there was talk of "Phenomenon" the Shake replacement.... its 2012 now, I think you get the idea :-)

Lets have some hope. They introduced a kick ass laptop that even Michael Cioni says its a beast of a laptop for red footage. Lets give them until 2013 to see what they have up their sleeve. In the meantime, I think the direct link posts were well removed because this thread should be about the fantastic offer HP brought to the table. I think we, the Apple users, do well to post our concerns and hope here in comparison to this system, but not derail this thread all to Apple. HP did a great job here and we want Apple to do the same for us!

The same could be said about Adobe; Premiere was abandoned by "professionals" in favor of FCP for a lot of years and they managed to re-establish themselves. It's a game of leapfrog.

It is never too late, it is all about using the right tools at the right time. In today's age, agility matters. In switching away from FCP / OS X in 2009, I have saved countless hours, days and weeks. My productivity has soared at least three folds. I don't regret not waiting one bit.

If Apple were to provide the best solution in 2015, I will be there. Today, the Apple solution is a long way behind and not part of the equation. I don't see much rationale in dwelling on hype, choose the best tools you can afford and get on with your work.

I seem to remember Premiere being a bit of a joke back in the pre-FCP days. I think you may mean AVID...

Except adobe doesn't get 99.9% of it's revenues from iproducts.

Er... No, it doesn't really. It works within the confines of the hardware it was originally made to run on. And it works within the limits of the various algorithms and processing abilities it had. The optical flow retiming and scaling functions were great in their day, but not as good as what's out there now. It does nothing to take advantage of current CPU instructions, multiple threads/cores, 64bit address space and memory sizes... Shake only scales to about 4 threads for rendering and does a relatively poor job at it. Try Nuke, you'll never touch Shake again. And AE kills Shake in every way these days.


I still have 2 or 3 copies of Shake4 with boxes and manuals and all that if anyone wants one. ...cheap.
