I just got a Canon 400mm 2.8 FD converted to PL mount. This is a 10 pound lens so I am concerned about the PL mount on my Dragon.

Can I mount the lens to the tripod and let the Dragon hang off the back like sports shooters do with DSLRs? Will this hurt the PL mount on my Dragon? What about with a 1.4x or 2x extender?

Not sure I'd hang the camera off the lens like that. Anything over 4 lbs is generally supported and that works both ways. Does the included lens support fit into a 15mm or 19mm rods set-up? If not maybe an adjustable lens support post or Y support would do the trick. That's a very nice lens though!

What chad says. I done it a lot with long lenses and so far no issues but I guess if its something you will use a lot I would create a custom 19mm lens suport or similar for it. Had this one made for my Ana Baltars, it´s made out of a Tilta 19mm rod suport. We simply milled a lower new main bit for it and took the rest of the bits from the tilta. Did not cost that much and is something any machine shop can fabricate.

Thats pretty awesome Bjorn.
Any pic's with glass hanging??
Do not hang your camera off of the lens. Not only can you break or bend parts you might not notice and then when you use a different lens like a wide later on you might notice that the corner is soft focus, or there is now a little vignette in a place you didn't notice before.
Just today I mounted a Century PL converted Canon 400mm on my Weapon and noticed that if I eased up on the support from my hand just a little while I was placing the rods lens support it would drop about 1 mil and that was as far as I felt comfortable. If I didn't support it no telling it probably would hang but man that would be a lot of load on 4 small screws in the camera. And a built camera with a battery hanging on the other end is easily over 4 lbs.
I would always support any lens or camera over what Hal said around the 4+ lb mark.
Sure it will work in a pinch but one bump and you might be holding your camera in one hand and looking at the mount still on the end of the lens.

a little tough to see but here is a jury rigged version I did with an 800 and 2x teleconverter. I mounted the lens to the QR plate and then used a lens support to hold the bottom of the camera.
