  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How RED saved my Life, My personal thank you in response to Jims last post.

Sounds awesome man, there heaps of cool places around, from the beautiful Sydney cbd to the beaches and even the rain forest! :)

Ketch will keep you busy. :)

Amazing story Jesse and I've never been prouder to be part of reducer. This forum is filled with so many generous and knowledgeable people. You have an opportunity to learn a great deal about our craft from these professionals.

I can't help but remember Spielberg's start. His father got him a one day pass to Universal Studios. http://www.internships.com/eyeoftheintern/news/famous-interns/steven-spielberg/
He turned it into a summer of observing and learning from the best.

You're being offered a similar gift by these generous people who, like me, were moved by your life story. I hope you can take advantage of it. I'll be following your progress.
And FWIW...I"ll bet Jim will see your post.

Jesse thanks for your openness and your courage to keep fighting, I'm glad to found something worth it.

Jim did more than make a camera and change an industry, he gave a lot of us hope. A way in.

Hey Jesse....I read every word and wow...really made me misty eyed. Thank you for sharing and know that you also have inspired others. I really loved your photography so i have no doubt you will learn to shoot beautiful stuff on a RED. I'm not a RED owner however if i were you i'd jump on the generous REDone offer (complete with shipping) that you have been given. Nikon mount be damned...where there is a will there is a way (as we have seen here). That nikon mount will come. Remember it was the good ole RED one you fell in love with first that is still extremely capable of shooting stunning images. Take care man.

This is so true. Filmmaking is a collaborative process.

I believe in the saying that "if you plan for a year then sow rice, if you plan for a decade then grow trees. If you plan for a lifetime, then educate people".

Donating a camera may be an easy way out for us. However, it needs far greater commitment when people will take out the time to help someone learn.

So Jesse, before you jump into thinking of having a camera and shooting a film, just meet up with the guys in Australia. See how they shoot. You will learn a ton. And for people who have the knowledge, watching established pros will give them the confidence that what you know is right.

Read this about Robert Wise: http://www.thefilmjournal.com/issue13/wise.html

You will know that he moved up from a guy who used to take up reels to the projection room. The good thing for him was that he was in a studio and could move between jobs and the won oscars for directing and was nominated for oscars for editing. Be associated with the posters who have offered help. May be you will discover that you want to be a director more than a DP or editor more than DP. It is all about realising your potential. Go and learn from all these folks. The world is yours.

I am really happy reading the views, experiences and advice of various people. Normally we see people talking about gears. Now we see all the warmth and caring part of people coming out into open. This makes the forum come alive.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Yep, what Sabyasachi said. :)

The understanding is just as important as the gear.

And the collaborations are key, too. Link up with as many talented people as possible. Films are rarely (basically never) a one-man event. We have to work with one another as a team. I have a feeling that the RED community is going to create some of these relationships, and lead to very cool films.

Think about it...there are some of the very brightest minds in filmmaking accumulated within these pages. What happens should the members of this community decide to start working together? We have cameras. We know editors, or are ourselves. It's time for things to change, and that's one of the reasons I am so pleased to see everyone's support of Jesse. It's really awesome. And I think it is only the tip of the iceberg.

There are big things coming.
