  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How much did you sell your Red for?

just talking about what you guys are talking about, Red definitely is a brand people associate with modern cameras, because it was the original.

  • Digital Cinema Camera
  • 4k
  • Digital Cinema Camera w/Highspeed
  • RAW

Who cares its a Red kit market right now... a sony F55 body only cost 29K and you know a Red Epic kit cost less and is a greater camera. Your price is your price if people buy then they buy look at people that buy so called classic cars. you cant cash them in so you sell it to the next sucker for a higher price because you dont want to spend the money to fix it or the up keep. Right now you guys are what they call haters, If you had one to sell your price would be high also so dont hate because you gave yours up for free to upgrade.

I guess you don't really understand this thread. Look at the used market here and elsewhere. They DON'T sell. Every 3 days they just "bump" or "lower the price".

As long as you stay in the Red upgrade programs it's all good (even if it makes less and less sense). As soon as you abandon it you just have to realize that your camera costs a lot less, because Red is moving forward with new bodies, new sensors quite fast. Arri used gear is still selling well because it's the same sensor that was super good since the beginning.

So instead of lowering their prices for several weeks, and sometimes months, without selling, it would be more clever to have some prices infos to give buyers and sellers a range.

Wanted to buy a dragon body only a few months back. Where really asking around but turned out that nobody wanted to let go for less than 18k usd or such. I guess the prices are as high as they are as the camera is actually not just still a very capable camera but also a good discount getting to weapon. With the tradein there was the new mount (traded my old pl for a nikon mount, value 1500usd) then the 5000 usd in extra accessories, Then the accessories that comes with the upgrade. (that you also coukd sell if you do not want to keep) then the actuall trade in discount, dont remember how much it was but for epic m dragon I think it was 17500USD... so in total the body of a dragon is worth about (me estimating incuding second hand sales) 25k USD for a person that wants to get a cf weapon body... that I think is holding prices quite high. Then also its easy to look at the prices in the red store and not see the sales tax and other costs. Something some can look differently att if buying as a private person on ebay or such.

We sold our scarlet dragon (with 5" monitor + 2 cables, top handle and rail, WC quick back and Vmount module, 2 OLPF, new fans) for 10500€ in Europe.

As a reference the 9950$ scarlet-w brain is 13600$/12050€ in Europe, Red selling it 11350$ to us + european taxes.

Cheap deal for Europe. Our price was higher at first but we decided to get the scarlet owner upgrade deal from Red and share the discount we get on the scarlet-w with the buyer. We wanted to avoid the dozens of used scarlet-D that will appear soon on the market, and get the money upfront for the new camera. It will be tough in a few weeks.

Mark my words.

6 months from now epic mx brains will be selling for around $5k.

Ditto +1
However, that doesn't mean they won't be capable of producing work at a fantastic level. Interesting times. There will be lots of people buying these cameras who will not be patient enough to learn the RED system and will denounce them I fear.

You have a point. A guy had his red one selling for 10K but I waited until he lowered the price to 6K full kit with only 250 hours on the camera.

I sold an Epic-M Dragon recently for about what the trade-in value toward Weapon is ($17,500). Included a 5" Touchscreen, 512GB mini-mag, and a few accessories. If you figure the extras are worth a bit over $3,000 and I sold it all for $20,700.
