  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How many REDs?

closing on 4000 and counting, as far as the posters go...

how you know it?

Now Red is servins till number 1750, I wonder how many reserved cameras was really payed and delivered at whole? Somebody estimated that is only half, I think its higher but probably not 100%.

He asked about reservations. I know of a few transfered resrvations, but I don't know of any which is not picked up or don't plan to pick up, but I only know about a fragment. It does so far not seem to be a problem to put your cam into good use. I'm curious what happens here when all cameras are delivered (I think Little Norway is closing on a RED ONE pr 100.000 citizens... )

I don't think we can do much more that speculate - but of the number so far, I'd say a pretty high percentage have completed the sale - bear in mind that these numbers represent the fairly early adopters, people who have been waiting. Most are quite keen (although some are 'holding off' for one reason or another). The later numbers might start to drop off a little.

Of course, that's just my speculation.

This is pure speculation on my part, but, starting from two weeks ago, we were at 1500. Of which I would estimate 80% shipped. Based on polling data, estimates indicate 65% of these are destined for North America and 25% Europe, with the rest evenly distributed to everywhere else with the lion's share going to Australia and New Zealand, respectively. To estimate how many RED's there will be from here on out, take the production estimate from the delivery schedule and project from there. Demand will not peak and RED will sell every camera it makes through this calendar year. As for how many in a given hemisphere, the distribution will begin to favor Europe very soon. Domestic (U.S.) demand will appear to slow as demand in Europe and Asia increases by a wide margin through the summer, thanks to the soft US dollar and the availability of foreign capital.

I'm 3923 as of last week.

Amazing! Anybody know the sales numbers for Sony f900 or f950 cameras? How about Varicams?

Team RED, did you ever think you were going to sell nearly 4000 RED ONE cameras back when reservations opened at NAB '06?

I can't even imagine the future numbers for Scarlet... 10,000? 20,000? More?

I dont have all the exact figures, however Sony just recently gave some updates. HDCAM stands at over 40.000 units in the market, 4.600 of them SR.

HD Camera Heads, as the HDC1500, and Mixers, as the MVS-8000 are counted separated and have individual sales nrs published: over 6000 of this camera model have been sold so far, the mixer is at 6.700 Units, 1.500 being HD.

But i suppose red should rather compared to other 35mm size cameras, in that area it outperformed and outsold *any* competition for many valid reasons.

I am saying this basically since 2006 - red one is much less competition to HDCAM than it is to 35mm mechanical and digital cameras.

I think scarlet can be a *real* bestseller. The PMW-EX1 made Sony 16 Mio revenue so far, and XDCAM has additional over 30.000 units in the Market. P2 is even more. And HDV is to much to count. The RED Scarlet should fit nicely in all these three markets (if they get wide and excellent postproduction support from avid/adobe/discreet etc).

What is the estimated lead time for those who just ordered?

I just received my serial number #4008 for my 2nd Red One ordered earlier today. They are literally FLYING off the shelves.

Why order another? So I can get eventually trade in for two EPIC's and film stuff for presentation in IMAX 3D theatres of course. :)

Yesterday I took my daughter and her friends to see "When Monsters Rules the Deep" in IMAX 3D. It was unbelievable to see over one-hundred 8-12 year-old kids paying extremely close attention (and fully interacting, laughing, screaming, yelling) to a science history film for nearly 45 minutes that would have otherwise put them to sleep if it wasn't in high-resolution 3D. Man, if they can keep 3rd graders interested (for that long) in science with this technology, just think what can be done with a great adventure or coming-of-age story.

#4007 - ordered yesterday! guess I'll have to wait a few months...

I ordered ours on Wednesday (totally NAB un-related), and we got 3971. Usually I am crap at remembering numbers, but that is one burned into my mind :glare:

Looks like Red is getting about 10 orders per day! Well deserved.

Once the Scarlet hits the market, I would imagine to see those numbers grow, and grow hard.

Yep Jim mentioned in the very beginnig if they sell "some" cameras it will be great satisfaction for his "dream come true" and as a side effect he will make a lot of many too   Just now it looks its double hit. But the real huge market will be avalanche of Scarlets! :bleh:

Over $100 Million in Sales

Figuring $25,000 average per shipped order, 4,000 RED ONE's most likely represents the $100,000,000 "orders on deposit" mile post.

Congratulations Mr. Jannard and the Red Team!

This is my principle concern. Will RED be able to keep up with the demand for Scarlet? It's clear the camera will flat out murder the likes of the XH A1 and others. Heck, I'd happily ship RED three kilobucks right now for the privilege of being close to the front of the Scarlet line -- even if that queue only starts to drain sometime in 2009.
