  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How long the scarlet can film non stop ?

I am asking for more Jeffrey , powered via ac adaptater and with an external recorder , with some hard drive with alot of storage , how many days it is possible to film non stop ? Is it risky for the camera to film 150 hours non stop ?
Sorry. Just trying to help. I'm on a shoot where I'll record from ac for about 12 hours. I'll let you know how it goes.

as long as you have data recording it should be fine. won't over heat with the fan

I don't work for Red, so don't take this as official by any means.

The Scarlet X will stay awake as long as you want it. If audio isn't an issue, I would leave the fan control at 100% in Manual and power via A/C. I don't think there's a reason the camera would shut down. You would need to shoot to some sort of recorder as RedMags top out at 256GB currently. Which at 4k 8:1 is around 2 hours of recording time. However, if you wanted to go down to say 12:1 or further if you were delivering 1080p content you could stretch that to 3 hours plus.

What you could run into is temperature concerns if you are shooting in very warm weather like a desert. The camera could potentially overheat and shutdown. I just shot a music video in the desert and shaded the camera as much as possible because of this.

The real question is what exactly are you doing? If this is merely for timelapse, like a year long timelapse, there's more efficient and cost effective solutions. If you are doing some sort motion sensor wildlife work and the camera gets triggered every so often I think it could work.

If this was me and I didn't have already have a camera to test, this is a situation where you'd probably rent a camera for a few days and test out your setup to see if it meets your needs.

I've shot 2 concerts and at each it recorded for 2 hours continuously with no issues. The only thing that would stop it is loss of power or running out of space for media.

I am having overheating problems when shooting interviews. What were your fan settings for that shoot/average camera temperature versus environment temperature?

Thanks
Antonio

Longest you could record with a scarlet? At 18:1 2k, set to 1fps you'd go roughly a fortnight on a 256gb card. Two weeks would be plenty of time to ask yourself what the hell you're doing mind you ;)
