  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How far is Epic in the tatoo program?

Call it blind faith if you will, but I still believe Stage-2 will be well underway before the year is over.

I am continually curious about what it means to "give up." So may people seem to come on the forum and threaten - "This is it. I've had it. I'm done waiting!!!"

And...??? What's the alternative. If it is indeed, as someone suggested, an Alexa (assuming you can actually get your hands on one), then wow, not exactly a come-down. Go for it. Otherwise, I think we are all stuck... waiting.

Good call. Perhaps the post was a bit dramatic. But waiting with a sense of anticipation vs waiting with annoyance. 'Give up' could be probably be better stated as settling for a mediocre solution to come down the pipe.

I understand what you mean and I wasn't picking on you. I think you called it right when you referred to people as "giving up" (or words to that effect). I think there are many, many people that will "settle" for something they can have now. It makes sense if you don't have something to shoot with. I think there are a lot of 7D owners out there who have done just that - and they are having fun.

I have been lucky enough to shoot a RED ONE for about 12 production days in the last few weeks and it has only whet my appetite for my own Scarlet. Otherwise, "settling" for me is continuing to shoot with my old JVC HD110 until the day RED starts taking Scarlet orders. Then I'll do my best to be the first in line! :hurray:

All it took for me was a pleasant afternoon demo with Peter Majtan and his R1M plus some pleasant hours playing around with a few R3D clips in the ever improving Redcine and Redcine-X. I'm hooked and there is no going back. Haven't seen anything affordable for me to own surface yet that would change my mind.
 
Messing around with exotic features like HDR and #21 (expected post-release) is clear sign that the camera is production ready with only some final fine-tuning and debugging left. November sounds like a good time for Epic-X Stage II.
 
I think #21 is HDR .

Maybe it's just helplessly hoping, but I'm with you.

What's everybody's guess as to how many of the first 200 did stage 2?
 
If one of the reasons for stage II was to gauge interest, I'd be stoked if they were using that count to manufacture them. I know it's fully wishful thinking on my part, but how awesome would it be if all reservation holders got their Epic notification on the same day? They have been pretty quiet lately. It'd be so cool to wake up someday soon and see a recon post saying, okay guys, the store has been updated and all Stage II cameras are ready to ship! Just configure your accessories, wire the funds and we'll send your stuff.

I know, I know... I'm not holding my breath. But, hey, if I wasn't a dreamer, I wouldn't be in this biz. It's much more likely that they will trickle out over time.

It's going to be so exciting when they do start shipping, though. People posting footage of their children, dogs and flowers. The classified section will be flooded with people scratching for funds. Field reports of productions shooting with them. Pictures posted of individual ideal configurations. Scarlet fever reaching epidemic proportions...

It's gonna get way fun here. Can't happen soon enough.

Well maybe not for YOU. But you're no longer a "normal" person like us Mark.. You're tight with RED and all things that come with it.

Last I checked, YOU have a BOMB EVF... The rest of us? Not so much.

YOU getting a camera in 2011 does not count (Well... It counts for you).

I consider "shipping" to be that 50 Epics will ship by year's end.. I don't think so. Soon after perhaps, but not by then.

Now in all seriousness: I cannot tell you how MUCH I'd LOVE to be BOLD FACE WRONG about all this.. But I've been here before. If I guess long, and Epic comes in sooner, then I get a nice surprise. But if I guess short, and it comes in later, that sucks.. It sure sucked with RED ONE.. So I'd rather be conservative this time around. Also, I want EVERTHING working, with EVERY piece of listed gear IN STOCK and READY to SHIP.

So I am happy to wait for all of it to get up to speed before I start doing my happy dance: :emote_happyhappy:

15 weeks left folks.

Mark knows what we don't- and he's probably been gagged since saying those few short words.
I think there have been many clues to the cameras coming out sooner that most think.
I am still guessing that the Tattoo program changed from what it originally was and has been undergoing extensive testing for some time now.
I don't think Red is shipping much new stuff (like the EVF bomb) because when Epic X is released, they want to have everything in great quantities.
This is my guess- reading between the lines of those at Red...

Simply put - Mark P has a great deal of credibility as he is about as close to RED as one gets without actually being an employee. When others, like Jay, have GUESSED that the camera would not come until next year, Mark basically said they were wrong. So, unless Mark actually thinks Epic won't come until AFTER next year, the logical conclusion, based on his "hint" is that we should expect it this year. I don'y know, maybe I am reading too much into it? :eek:
 
We will shoot this year´s christmas in 5K.
