How Does One Order the Fixed lens Scarlet ?

This is my first post on this forum. I am interested in low-cost interchangeable lens cameras for documentary work. Obviously the Scarlet promises to be ideal for this purpose, when it is released.

The question of a realistic release date for any camera is important so that a potential purchaser can plan for it - which lenses and accessories to buy, whether to buy a competitors camera, whether to commence a project in a certain format or to wait. Some people on this forum are seeking reliable information so that they can decide if they can wait for the release of the Scarlet. These purchasing decisions are of particular importance to independent film-makers who operate outside of the cashed-up cinema/broadcast/advertising world.

An announcement of a proposed release date is always part of the marketing strategy for technology products. The manufacturer hopes that potential buyers make a choice to wait for the new product.

The loyalty to Scarlet on this forum is remarkable for a product that is not even manufactured yet, but I get the feeling that it is not a balanced discussion. I noticed that some forum users who have commented on the overdue release of the Scarlet are now banned. One was called a "goat herder" (a more honest profession than most jobs in this business). Another forum user who asked about release dates was told by Jim to take his question to dvxuser.

Red has built a strategy of marketing forthcoming products by suggesting release dates (that have turned out for one reason or another to be unrealistic). Is it fair that posters who make critical comments about the delays, or who are simply seeking current information should be treated to such arrogance?

Welcome to Reduser Russel. The Scarlet will be available soon after EPIC is done. They share many of the same modules. They are staying loyal to us early adopters first, and soon will build a product bullet proof enough to the masses.

They are new at this and are attempting something nobody has done before. It will ship when its ready.

And lest you think this is a flippant response. NOBODY and I mean NOBODY wants to ship these cameras more than Jim and RED. If people just remembered that, oput themselves in Jim and Jarred's shoes, they would find more eloquent ways to express frustration. We all want these cameras and want them now... but this community also asked for a LOT MORE features than were ever planned and RED obliged and its a complicated order to make it all work. R1 took some time and now rocks. Rent one with a DP and you will see why us loyal users are patient. The R1 M-X right now is my fave camera on the planet to shoot motion with. LOVE IT. I will take EPIC when its READY.

cheers

The reason I wait for Scarlet is that so far nothing in the market or known to be in development for the immediate future offers anything like its promised combination of features and image quality for the price range.
The setbacks are frustrating for us all.
