How do you relink footage?

I have a newly-purchased MacBook Pro (2.4ghz, prev gen model). Nothing installed except RedCine 3.1.2, Red Alert!, RED and Avid codecs.

I try to load my project file from my PC at home (made on RedCine 3.1.5) on it. I have the footage on the same external drive I use with the PC.

Two problems:

1. all clips show up as blue because RedCine can't find them (Mac vs PC path / volume names).

2. when I click on the Library it crashes

So, how do I tell RedCine to look for the files in the correct place? And how do I stop the Library from crashing?

If you guys put the color info in the XML file I could just do a search and replace to fix the paths. But as things stand the XML file is unusable because if I use it I lose grading info for 430 shots.

4 possible resolutions to this:

1. RedCine gets a "relink footage" button

2. RedCine puts color info in XML file so I can fix pathnames with text editor

3. I figure out the .rcn file format and fix pathnames with a hex editor or little c++ program

4. There's a "relink footage" button, but I missed it?

I'm inclined to go for #3, but if you are planning to implement #1 or #2 within the next week or so, please let me know! That'd save me a lot of time.

Attached is my .rcn file in case you guys want to look at the Library crash bug. (I added .log to the end of the filename in order to get it to alllow me to upload the file)

did you ever get an answer to this problem? I'm wondering the same thing.

Of course not.

Check out this thread too:

Considering
A) the magnitude of the problem
B) how easy it would be for RED to code a fix

...you'd think they'd have a less-pathetic response. EG a fix released within weeks of the problem first being reported (March 2008).

Anyway, I gave up on waiting for RED and am coding my own solution. Have requested permission from RED to post it here (free, with source code) nearly two weeks ago. No response.

man redcine is so close to being an awesome tool, but the basic issues it has drives me nuts.

I'll be watching the board for the fix. It would really help with this project I'm working on. it would be nice to be able to email redcine files to other people and have them actually work.

Update:

I found it was easier to copy color info per clip from one redcine project to another than it was to change filenames. When you change the filenames in the redcine project, you have to get the padding EXACTLY right and I haven't nailed it yet.

It works for small projects (50 clips etc) but it's screwing something up on my 430-clip project and I don't have time to figure out why.

So now this is what I am doing:
1. create new project
2. bring in clips
3. save project
4. run redcine color copier to copy clip color settings over from prev project
5. go go go

I imported footage for each day as a separate project and redcine color copier succeeded with 7 / 8 days.

So now I have a Mac and a PC sitting together both rendering happily right now. Yaay. Finally back on track.

Still haven't received a response from RED about whether I can post the app here or not.

RED Alert is much friendly and easy.

Try to combine with free app Clipfinder 2.1 if you have "tons" of clips.

Also you'll get all Avid codec for output as usual.

RED Alert may well be more friendly and easy but I don't have $$$$ for a Mac. I spent that money making my film. I am borrowing a MacBook Pro for now but it's too slow. I am running REDCINE on several PCs and Macs at the same time to get through all the footage quickly.

By the way, my redcine color copier is Mac and PC friendly. It is not hard to write cross-platform at all. It took me 1/2 an hour to make the PC version.

I have no idea why RED command-line tools are not cross-platform. It must be a conspiracy.
