I have looked and looked through the manual, but just cannot get our 28" LCD HDMI computer monitor to "see" the signal coming from the HDMI port of our Scarlet Camera.

Is there a setting that I've missed or something? We were able to do this with our Red-One with no problem, but the Scarlet won't.

I'm sure it's a setting in the menu I've missed.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Do you have the TouchLCD as well to go through the menu?

Ok so go to settings/display/monitor control/monitor choose the brain hdmi and see if its active. Maybe change to 720p to get it running first. If its not active maybe disable enhanced focus mode and see if this gets you further.

Also change the frequency settings. Some displays don't play along with all frequencies

Thanks for your help Patrick.

I have done everything you suggested with no results, except for changing the frequency settings. Not sure how to do that.

It should be in the window of the brain hdmi settings at the bottom.

As I went to do what you suggested, I just discovered that the Brain HDMI - 60 Hz, had switched back to Brain LCD - 30 Hz.

Why won't it lock in? Am I not pushing the correct buttons or something. To get it to HOLD, don't I just push the menu button again once I've got it into Brain HDMI - 60 Hz ??

Thanks again for your help.

Just tried it to make sure, but yes, I just push the menu button and that gets me out of the menu and the settings stay.

George - a couple of thoughts...

1) How old is your HDMI monitor? I think some older units just might have a problem synching up.
2) I haven't had issues lately but, in the past, I know you sometimes had to re-start the camera after changing the monitor settings to get everything to hold the settings and synch up.

Hi Terry,

Our monitor is only about 1- 2 years old, and has always worked just fine with our Red-One. In fact, we use this monitor quite heavily in the studio, so the other person can see what's happening while it's being shot.

I also just tried rebooting the camera, and "again" the monitor is "stuck" on Brain LCD. Even though I change it, it WILL NOT stay changed.

????????????????????????????????????????????

"Have you tried turning it off and on again" :D

But really, maybe try to unhook the HDMI, change the settings, and hook the HDMI back up. And also check your panels settings if maybe anything on there is set to "auto" maybe?

This just should NOT be this complicated. It's ridiculous!!

I experimented with some settings. In the monitor menu it also has a Priority setting, so I "tried" to set it to Brain HDMI, and I have to say, it is weird the way Red has set it up to change things. But, anyway, when I did that, all of a sudden the screen display is greyed out "when" the HDMI cable is plugged in. When I unplug it, the EVF screen goes back to normal.

I even tried hooking up an SDI Monitor (also worked with the Red-One) and it won't display either.

It is absolutely STUCK on Brain LCD, period.

I guess I'll have to contact Red on Monday.

I just don't get it.

Sorry to hear that George, please do report back what they come up with!

As for me, I just use it and it works fine. Only thing I ever had to do was activate HDMI first to be able to use it - that has been changed since 4.x firmware, now it's on as a standard I believe. And then apply the frequency for the various monitors. That's it. Sorry to hear that it's giving you a hard time. It usually doesn't ! :)

Last thing, I heard about some people having problems with certain monitors about beginning of last year. It worked fine for them with other screens. Some - I believe it was a small HD, but not sure - were fine after these screens received a firmware upgrade from the manufacturer.

It sounds like you are confused about how to operate the monitor control menu. Are you expecting the monitor control menu to have HDMI already selected when you open it? When you say itʻs "stuck on LCD" do you mean thatʻs the option that is selected in the list when you enter monitor control? If so, thatʻs normal, LCD is just the first option in the list. Once you change that menu selection to HDMI, then you change the settings for your display resolution and refresh rate.

If that is the case what is bothering you, Jeff is right. LCD is always first on the list for the settings the priority is just for the internal ranking of which item gets the menu. From the manual

PRIORITY

The monitor priority determines the priority in which the monitors will become the control surface. You can also choose for the system to automatically assign Menu mode to the highest priority active monitor.

NOTE: There can only be one control surface active at any given time.

EDIT: that said, George had a problem of the frequency setup for the display not sticking to what he chose.

Another important thing to point out is the behaviour of the display with active enhanced AF mode

Enhanced A/F will be in Clean mode (no overlay) with a set resolution of 720p and update frequency of 60 Hz. (You cannot select a frequency other than 60 Hz at this time.) You will no longer have control over these monitors until you disable the Enhanced A/F feature.
