Now with build 16 I get a "off" sign on the left of the screen when I am not using the EVF rotating button control. Is there any way of getting rid of this sign?

At this time, you can't. This is the minimum GUI footprint of the EVF when attached.

A button that doesn't do anything needs a hugely distracting sign right in the middle of the frame to say that it doesn't do anything?

Dear RED, sometimes...

No, I think it needs a little button way off to the side where you don't even notice it 99% of the time.:whistling:

I mostly rent my camera out and not looking forward to all the times I have to explain to DP's that the very bright (compared to the other UI elements) "off" sign means that a button is not doing anything.

There really is no reason for this sign. If a button is doing something then something should happen in the screen when you use it. If it doesn't do anything than it is obviously "off", just as none of the other customisable buttons don't have "off" signs.

Well we'll just have to agree to disagree about that one..

No, its not a mistake its a difference of opinion, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Turning off the EVF data has been asked for by some DPs I've worked with. They just want the option. The "off button" wasn't a problem as Evin mentioned. It was more about getting rid of everything else. Not sure if this will be possible to program or not, but if we could have an option that would allow us to map an info on/off to one of the EVF buttons that would be great.

Okay, some quick pics. As you can see the "off" button is the only thing with the timecode that is actually in the look around area, and when you zoom in onto the lcd to get rid of the menus it is still there.

But then maybe I am overly sensitive for distracting things in the image...
