I notice Avid has /i support (Cooke's technology for lens metadata, as included in Red Lenses) but I've not noticed anything about FCS2. Is this one up for Avid users over FCS?

No. If I tell you why, I'd have to kill you.

There are TWO GIANT things that make /i support ROCK -

#1: ON SET - you now do not have the AC yelling the lens size and F/Tstop ( and he/she does not have to scribble it down on a CAMERA REPORT)
to the Script Supervisor - (and he/she does not have to note it down in the Script Notes) - AND with a software application on set one can INSTANTLY get the lens/exposure info from a previous shot. Faster, more efficient then digging through camera reports and script notes -

#2: VFX/Compositing & 3D integration -

HUGE advantages here.

Sure I understand how /i works. What I'm curious about is if FCS doesn't support /i Technology can it import the metadata and format it to the shot ok. I'm not that big on the post side of things frankly, but to me if Avid are supporting it then they are making a conscious effort to import and identify that data in their software. If Apple have no confirmed support of it how is that data then used in FCP or Color?

I didn't know what i support works, i recieved a useful bit of info there, thanks for clearing that up. This whole site has taken over my life and given me the only access to this sort of information, seriously i love this place.

I think the main point is that you wouldn't...

Lens data is very helpful when doing matchmoving and complex composites. Nothing you'd do in your NLE. Or do you have a suggestion of how you'd like to use /i data in Color?

Barend

You could alter color properties as a function of DOF.. Now that could make for an interesting effect. Heh.

Jeff - an interesting but edge case scenario you present - wouldn't that be more likely done in Shake/AE/combustion type apps, anyway, script driven?
