I have a RedVolt in the Side Handle, and a Brick on the Craddle... Both a full charged.
When I remove the Brick, the camera turn off, the RedVolt doesn't take over.
Is it normal ?
Or the hot swappable works only when removing the RedVolt ?

Best

Somebody told me today that you need to boot off the battery in the side handle BEFORE you connect the other, then it works, migth also be a firmware update thing, so if you run on older firmware it might not work.

Strange. Never seemed to be a problem for me. I remove the Brick (VF V-mount) and the Redvolt automatically takes over. FW 2.0.5.

You should probably contact RED about this because I seem to remember Jarred saying that it's supposed to work that way.

I find that I tend not to use the handle in normal "pro" conditions, because I know of no way to lock the buttons. They will be activated under handling, witch is very annoying at best....A bit off-topic, but this back-up v-mount works like a charm.

It doesn't work for me with a VF APU IDX and a side handle. Camera shuts off when v-mount battery is pulled.

Experience it once when using the belt clip with the 2-1 cable. After we re-booted with the redvolt, the AC swapped the brick and mounted it, we never saw that problem again.

It might be what Eirik said, works when the camera recognizes the redvolt first.

When booting with the Redvolt, and after swapping with a RedBrick (with the cradle and the 2-1 cable), the camera switch on the brick. But when I remove the Brick the camera turns off few seconds, and restart with the RedVolt... During the restart, the screen is green !!!

FW 2.05 and testing also with the 2.08... Same problem

I can hot swap between RV and brick with no problem, no matter which battery I boot up on. That is of course, if battery is properly and securely inserted, Once my camera powered down when swapping to a brick because there wasn't a solid connection in the V-mount; thus no valid power source recognized. Make sure you get a good solid click when you shove that brick in. A swift and sure release of brick from V-lock is also necessary. Any hesitation during release will cause camera to power down and then power back up. Hope this helps. I'm on fw 2.0.5.

The problem is not when installing a Brick, but when I remove it.

For what it's worth, I just tried some experiments with my Epic X. Seems if you first power up the camera with the Redvolt and then install the AB or V lock I'm able to then hot swap without losing power. I even powered down and up a number of times and was still able to remove the AB or V lock without losing power.

I wonder why that works for you and not others of us? It seems like such a strange problem. Surely it must have something to do with the side handle.

I've seen hot swap fail on two jobs back in November, but not since then. Hot swap has been working for me on four separate bodies and side handles, both with Red bricks w/ APU and AC power. I always boot with v-lock/AC power first.
