I may be overstepping, but Jim and Jarred don't seem the cop type. The're more like the dudes in the room who, when they see a guy who has had too much tequilla, help him out of the room.

I think anyone who's following this forum for a longer period of time knows and appreciates that.

I think the same. And it's better to step in before things get out of hand.

You are kidding... right?

Jim

In this type of communication there are tendencies to jump to conclusions - mostly bad ones, blow things out of proportion, take things out of context, and so on, and so on.

I can attempt to be as levelheaded and as tactful as possible and bridge the language barrier to communicate what I think is healthy, but based on forum behavior I have seen so far in tricky topics like this,
that would most likely end up either over-protectively slammed back into my face, or used against you guys.

Since neither is my goal I prefer not to engage into public discussion about this and complicate this any further.

I hope you understand.

Sorry if my post was a bit harsh... we are fighting an increasing number of spammers, and threads that don't belong. When one is one the fence, it seems to run away with itself. And we don't have a ton of time to make a call. We are erring on the side of keeping this forum clean and to try to reduce the noise level here so people can actually find stuff that matters. We won't always be perfect...

I don,t know about others- but the only reason I come to reduser is for:

1. News about RED products
2. Help and tips about using or working with RED or RED (cinema) related equipment
3. Seeing/reading what others are creating with RED

I admit, sometimes there is some little off-topic thing to share.
But- I personally don,t care if that,s on here at all.

I think the real "problem" is that so many people love this place and spend a lot of time here. They value the opinions of the others on this forum on a variety of topics, not just about the RED program, and they are inclined to discuss other topics whether they are related or not.

That said, I think the current course is the right one. Try to keep the forums on-track with relevant discussion and lock down any threads that start to lose control or threads that are completely off-topic.

If someone wants to start up their own forum to host free-for-all discussions on a variety of topics, they should. Invite all of us, who knows, we may all show up. For now, and the foreseeable future, reduser.net is not that forum.

Posting the link to Home was I think legitimate for this site. It is a beautiful if disturbing film.

When the responses turn into a political flame fest, time to move on. I like a healthy debate over such things as much as anyone, but this is not the forum for it.

Why do that ? they should let him make an ass out of himself until he throws up, passes out and then everyone can draw on him with magic markers.

That's what we always do.

There are a million and one places to discuss politics etc etc etc, only one to connect with other industry people, keep Reduser as a place to discuss filmmaking, focused on doing so with Red. I think general topics have some place, general lighting practices and suchlike. But honestly where else is there a concentration of cutting edge filmmakers all in one place, keep it as that!

That would be great, but unfortunately the guy who had too much tequila was left in the room (and is still in the room).
Not naming any names (Andrew Walker).
:seeya:

Just saying, it's always the same 2-3 people .......

Milan, you really shouldn't name and shame, even when you're right.

That's true, but I also think there are too many folk sitting on the forum that should be out actually shooting something instead of sharing with the world their vast capacity for small mindedness.

I guess it's a balancing act for the mods between keeping the signal to noise ratio down and encouraging an active online community. On the whole they do a good job indeed and should be applauded.

Personally, I think if I were a mod I'd ban all posts that start, "Personally, I think". But then, if I were a mod this forum would be chaos.

Happy shooting one and all...

That's true and I apologize for that.
But I still think it was obvious why the original thread went downhill to anybody who read it. No need to beat around the bush.

Now if you excuse me, I'm taking the Red to the desert for some dust and heat exposure. :(

Happy shooting to all, including the ones who had too much tequila.....

If this turns into a pissing contest, there are a couple of temporary bans to be given away for free.

I didn't name names. I was just responding to my name being used in a negative way.

It would be really sad if this community couldn't exchange thoughts and emotions about such things as mind opening movies and especially the ones about preserving our planet, just because few members cannot find civilized level of communication.

I cannot imagine that your vision of making a magical device - such as camera - was based strictly on enabling capturing and discussing pretty pictures, even when they show our world falling apart. My heart tells me it wasn't and the passion you and your crew show make my brain tell me my heart was right. Same heart which gave me watery eyes while watching "Home" and same heart which made me fall in love with a box recording moving images and the same heart which made me start this thread. I hope you will find a way to cut off the negativity in this great community at the root instead of cutting the natural and healthy "breathing" of this place.

Your post was not harsh, Jim. I realize you guys sometimes get fed up because you go through a lot. Thank your for your understanding. Hats off for the response.

not everyone feels the same as you thats the problem.. if they did we would not have so many problems with the earth

some dont care or dont see it as a problem

I make stupid comments but they are just jokes to play devils advocate for fun not to be mean spirited

funny that guy called me a racist for it

when im english irish and im married and have two kids with a woman that is Japanese Korean

jeez lighten up a bit

i feel my part is to stay away from plastic bags and 6 packs not sure what else to do.

My 2 cents ...

People come here eager to see advancements with their favorite camera company but sometimes theres none so they shoot the BS

but thats all it is bs ..

:chillpill:

Guys, behave.

guys..take a hint..please..
..off topic is nice diversion from endless scarlet waiting posts..
..you just may get the whole "off topic" forum shut down..
if someone makes a joke etc...think..hmm..for a day..before you respond(retaliate)..
..most likely after a day..it will seem a waste of time to do so..

I hope the bans are issued accordingly, that was kind of the point I was trying to make.
Believe me, I know your job as a moderator here is a nightmare and I for one am grateful for your willingness to do it, without compensation even, but in the interest of fairness you should maybe single out people who bring negativity and bad vibes to otherwise positive RED/Filmmaking related threads rather than just issue a general warning.

Like I said, why beat around the bush, it's obvious to everyone who these people are.

Cheers,

Milan
