  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hint...

We do have a plan for complete testing in this community, just different than the 1st time around. We will be transparent as always... that part of the philosophy has not changed.

Jim

I'd like to hear more about this

I have some speculative ideas in my head what that means, that Mark just quote here, but honestly I want to keep that my own and wait and see.

Jim was always loyal to us first users, so no reasons for me to worry about anything.

Thumbs up,
Axel

Jim:

when will RED start releasing specs on the mounting system to 3rd parties? I'd love to start working on an OCT19 mount. Thanks

I hate the concept of 'time machine' in movies. But for Scarlet, I wish I had one:)
Jim please hurry up I need two of them. Can I get one free for waiting:)

Keep up the good work!

I think I just read MORE bad news, than good news :/ But I digress...

I mean, really what is the ONLY bad news RED could deliver us? "a schedule hit" ;)

Rock on! Red Leader.

Proud to be on the REDconnaissance front with my R1. Still have much to learn and accomplish with this first tool. Next camera should knock our socks off and if waiting a bit longer is necessary, then so be it.

As has been said in this thread before, "What's the problem? I still have my RED One to play with!"

Only better news would be that I get to keep my RED One and still get Epic-X. (maybe I will make a plaster mold if I have to turn it in. Hard to imagine not having it eventually.)

Would be very nice if there was a book like the "Barrys hvx book" but for Scarlet that you could buy bundeled with scarlet.

Does this schedule hit imply problems with ASICS? I hope not. The post kind of sounds like we are being softened up for a bigger blow on Oct 30. I wonder how much of a schedule hit we are looking at? 6 months? A year?

Oh well, everything changes. I'll keep waiting... Best of luck Red Team!

Hi Alex, I think you missed the part where Jim said the delay was the ONLY bad news they have:

Our only bad news is the schedule hit. This should not be a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention and it won't be terminal, but that is about the closest thing we have to bad news.

I'm hoping the 30th announcement means the ASICs are good and they are moving into first production runs. The delay he is hinting at may be a window for getting the first production cams out to local RED pro users for field evaluations and debugging.

Well we can hope can't we?

 You're wrong Jim. A delay does translate into a big price increase. I decided to set aside X money per month until the camera shipped. Only problem is I set $X per month to coincide with a FF35 package in Summer 09. Delay too much longer and I'll be buying the 645 epic.

You know you want that 645....

That said, I think it's a safe bet that the FF35 and other Monstro-based cameras are probably still a good ways off in the future. I can't wait to get my hands on that 645 though.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing.
For one thing, this just means those of us with limited disposable income will have more time to put money aside. Meanwhile, we can rent a RED ONE.

Because it's modular, the reality is that it's not just one new camera they're releasing, it's a million different new cameras depending on your preferred configuration, and they need to make sure there are no conflicts or bugs - regardless of which modules you're using or the combination in which you're using them.
I'm sure the design is solid. But even so, there's no such thing as too much testing when you're going for bulletproof. There will always be someone who figures out a way to break something in a way the designers couldn't dream of - which is why beta testing by actual users is so important.
In this case, doing the required testing both internally as well as with outsiders who are already familiar with the RED ONE and the RED workflow sounds like a solid idea to me. At the same time, I hope they're also beta testing with some newbies to get the RED virgin feedback (in which case I'm sure there will be no shortage of volunteers).

Whatever the schedule turns out to be, I'm sure most of us will be happy in the end.

I think we'd all be happy to wait for the cameras' final release even without any stunning new announcements about the system on the 30th - anything like the Scarlet/Epic lineup as we know it by now is worth waiting for in my book. So no worries about the schedule hit...

My birthday :)
In a way, mine also... It's the 31st, but with the time difference, it might just work out! :wink5:

Unless some other company makes EPIC before you guys do, I am in, and I will just have to wait for as long as it takes.

If you want a BETA tester in cold winter conditions, call me!

BTW:The 30th seems like an eternity.

I was in your neck of the woods the other day (well Fredrikstad but not far off)...know how cold the winters can get...makes me shudder to think. Excellent place to test how the cams handle it...as long as I can come and witness it of course.

Halloween Eve, how appropriate. Trick? Treat? The treat will be seeing a photo of pallets and pallets of the camera ready to be shipped just as we saw with the 18-85 not so long ago.

Nothing is left to chance at Red, including the date.
