  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HEDGE - DATA TRANSFER SOFTWARE - GROUP BUY

Just pre-ordered Hedge for windows. Thank you for the opportunity !

Really interested in buying this, but wondering how this is faster than shotput? Anyone have info on how this software is faster, yet still does a safe copy?

I think one of the primary ways this is faster is the checksum algorithm it uses. Hedge uses xxHash64 which is much faster than MD5 (what Shotput and presumably Offload uses). It also allows you to verify a file AS it is being copied, instead of waiting for the copy to finish and then verify it as a second step (I know Offload does this, not sure about Shotput).

ShotPut has used xxHash64 as an option for a long time now. I think v6 defaults to that now. I'd be surprised if Hedge is actually faster. I'd be interested in some actual benchmarks showing it is.

See, that's what I was wondering. I've used Hash64 in Shotput for a couple of years now, so it would have to be the copy and reading part of the software that's faster, not the actual checksum method.

I just bought it the other day, but had not seen this thread. Great thread. Great software.

Last call! Monday will be the final day this group buy is available.

Hi Paul,

Just wanted to drop a feature request. I've been loving the software for backing up my cards quickly and easily but I'd also love to backup my RAID using this software.

It would be great to have an incremental backup feature where I could initially copy (for example) all of my 20TB RAID onto another RAID, and then only new files/modified files in the future, all the while verifying the copied data.

Is this sort of backup something you can see in the future of Hedge?

Thanks either way!
