  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDRx footage...

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Wow.

Wow.Wow.Wow!!!!

For the first time I'm looking at a digital image completely smitten and enamored by the "feel". This feels like home. Someone mentioned kodachrome.. Or Velvia.. Wow.

A perfect ACE post!!!

Nicely done! Now about delivery of stage 2 ... ;)

BTW- the motion rendering is great. Especially given that this is HDR on top of it! I can't wait to get this in my hands and start using it on productions.

This footage looks amazing.

When you get around to posting more, would you consider day exterior full sun with mixed skin tones? The image may not be as cool, but its a constant production challenge.

I have to wonder if Scarlet owners would prefer HDR in their cameras if they had to pay extra for it. We could up the processing power by adding boards but that will cost money and I'm not sure if Scarlet buyers will go for it. Some feedback on this would be helpful on another thread in the Scarlet section of reduser. Given the change in development path, board costs, an additional ASIC and "stuff", we are probably looking at an additional $1000 more or less.

Jim

Yes I would definitely pay an extra $1000 for the HDR feature on an S35 Scarlet.

(I'm more a reader in this forum than an active participant, but I would gladly voice my opinion on this one)

Every now and then I login to RedUser, and feel like the world changed... this is definitely one of those times.

Can't wait to try HDRx (but take your time: every month that passes, Epic seems to get better and better).

Yes please, please, please! HDR on the S35 Scarlet!! Don't want to left out of the RED world and in the cold again, by not being able to afford an EPIC (as was the case with the RED ONE first time around). And not having HDR on the Scarlet doesn't differentiate it sufficiently from the other prosumer cameras, as someone mentioned earlier.

Thanks!
Nikhil

I was just at that exact spot in Vegas this weekend, and used the HDR mode on my iPhone to take a similar picture. The iPhone faces had that fake-ish HDR look, while the Epic footage looks natural.

And without HDR, forgetaboutit. Silhouetted people against ultra bright lights!

Things that I am seeing that don´t quite fit the standard model - no judgment so as in motion its all good also its beta and all.

halo on the right hand side of his head from the stroblight of the fire engine gives an edge next to the motionblur that is considered not normal so I have not seen any situation similar to this to judge further.

then here in these three frames you see the motionblur predicts the light coming on (these are three successive frames) - they build a time machine! :D

And here well this looks really wonky could a due to the mix of different motions but I sense I bit of oflow in this as well.

As said maybe I am just seeing things maybe its totally irrelevant but I spotted it by going a bit crazy with the footage.

We're still looking at beta footage, so I don't see the reason to pick it all apart just yet. For example we can see the G and L on the GOLD NUGGET sign go grey for one frame as they light up slightly slower than the O. As if they were off when one exposure value was read and then on when the next was read. Think of it as the HDRx version of a split-frame shutter exposure.

I'm expecting all of this to improve and be optimized before it's released as a feature. But also wonder just how far it can be taken with the current technological limits already in-place within Epic.

This is just one feature of the camera. It is a tool that may not work under all circumstances. But a welcome tool to have and I can't wait to try it out for myself.

Absolutely Jeff,

...and it looks great in motion :)

great work really

Just trying to understand how it works thats all - still love how it looks don´t want to pick on it - I definitely understand what "beta" means have been officially betatesting software since 15 years, ten years for apple (osx itself) ;)
And you do see how things works best where they break.

That is a very impressive bit of footage.

Might I suggest that next time you take a few stills with a 5D in raw and post those for comparison.

funny thing is - there are even MORE features on EPIC that have not even been announced yet. Most powerful moving image camera system PERIOD. But like I said in another post - HDRx™™ is the single biggest achievement from RED since REDCODE.

Could'nt agree more Mark - Lim
