  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDR-2084 Support via REDCAST module ( Epic and Scarlet Dragon )

Still very interested in a RedCast module for DSMC2. TBH, I figured we'd have built in UHD/4K monitor output on top tier RED cameras/expanders by now.

With 8k upon us 4K monitoring is highly useful.
And will redcast output a downconversion or something? when shooting at 6k or 8k?

Is GigE an option for 4K monitoring?

Is there a fast way to go 1:1 from sensor to HD monitor that works across Helium and Dragon sensors?

I'm disappointed that one of the significant advantages of shooting digitally is still not in regular use.
Watched two movies yesterday, one big budget and one modest and was surprised at the frequency of misfocus.

In one interior scene actor and camera are stationary, mid focal length lens probably T1.8 and focus is 6 inches behind her eyes!!

It was pivotal scene, her monologue lasted what seemed to be over 30 seconds. It was excruciating to watch.

Yes I understand that the take may have been identified as soft by crew and used anyway.

1:1 monitoring is handy even if it is a HD frame size within the 4K or 8k frame....

It's not like anyone at RED owes me an explanation. If I don't like the feature set I can always buy a different camera. I get it. That said, I have a dream where I can shoot DSMC2 - AND - have live UHD/4K output. Jarred referenced Broadcast clients recently, are they putting Dragon sensors into configs that support UHD/4K Broadcast infrastructure? If so, do I need to purchase such a camera from a 3rd party? I suppose it's possible that 3rd parties are buying Dragon sensors just for 1080P slo-mo/special applications and don't care about live UHD/4K...

Would appreciate some guidance on the roadmap, if any, to UHD/4K output from camera/expander.

Still anxious to hear when/if we can monitor/feed UHD/4K live from camera. Have been doing some product tabletop work the last few months where seeing a higher resolution image would be quite useful - especially on the macro stuff. I'm assuming the issue is that the decode/scale processing for UHD/4K creates too much latency or it would already be supported. Is a DSMC2 UHD RedCast module even in the pipeline? Should we be watching for a 3rd party solution vis a vis Mark's OMODs?

I hope there is an update soon on DSMC2 Redcast options. Would really love to use SW and EW cameras for live broadcasts.
