That said, the cables we've tried that don't work with the Red, work with ALL the other HDMI devices.
this is my main point.

"Input signal out of range. Change settings to 1920 x 1200 - 60 HZ"
I have a 30 foot HDMI cable plugged into an LG LBD2DE 1080LCD and works perfectly in both 720 and 1080.
Best advice is bring your RED in with you when testing monitors and try them all.
On a Panasonic Viera TV the camera works fine conected to the TV until the HDMI I/O is made live then it crashes the camera. its not cable length but what ever the TV is sending back up the cable or handshaking or whatevers going on.
The Panasonic TVs use their HDMI connections to communicate with other Panasonic AV gear for remote control. I suspect it is this communication that crashes the camera. There is obviously something in the HDMI specifications that allows manufacturers to use HDMI in this way. I think Red needs to make the camera's HDMI port 100% compliant so it isn't crashed by these common signals.
The DVD player analogy is a good one. A device with a properly implemented HDMI output should be as simple as plugging in an HDMI DVD player.
Im sure this is it, please can the ball now be in Red's court to advise.

I just got one of the new Dell 2709W monitors with HDMI input. I was hoping to be able to use it for monitoring onset, but my RED just hangs when I connect it (with a 1.5m cable). It works fine when I connect to my 32" Samsung TV. I think it's frustrating to get a "try some different ones and see if they work"-answer to this question. I think it would be a great idea to start a thread with a list of panels that have been tested and work with the RED ONE. The best would be for someone from RED to moderate it.

Try using hdmi to dvi and I think you might get different results.
Does anyone have access to the HDMI spec to see if there is a way to disable the offending signals by disconnecting some pins on the cable? If there is a dedicated line for these control signals it could conceivably be disconnected.
