  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HDMI 2.0 officially announced

This is good news. and I already knew HDMI v2.0 was coming.
But what's wrong with DisplayPort v1.2? It already supported 4k@60p. And the normal-size connector has latches on it, which prevent it from getting detached easily.

HDMI v2.0 is the exact same connector as HDMI v1.4, and they haven't made it any more robust.
Don't get me wrong - I do like progress, and 18Gbps should provide good enough bandwidth for 4K high-FPS material.

Also, don't forget that miniDP is the exact same connector as TunderBolt, which is an advantage.
I'm surprised that there haven't been any AV receivers on the market sporting a ThunderBolt or DisplayPort.
HDMI seems to have a certain "favorism" for the CE market.

Latches and home electronics suck. I often have an HDMI cable connected to the front port on my receiver. Something's going to break if the connector is too secure and a pet/kid/significant other stumbles on the cord.

Next year, they'll announce HDMI 2.1 featuring 64 channels of audio and 4K 3D. Just you wait!

NEC Prosumer displays have both HDMI (not 2.0) and DP.
