  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HD SDI out of EPIC, bit depth...

Most directors/ producers prefer inserting something tangible like a piece of tape that they can carry around rather than a hard drive or files.

Most of the time the HDCAM gets transferred to time code DVD anyway.

Most times i have supplied low res proxies on a hard drive, they always complain on "Why it the picture so bad"

I have come across this with XDCAM proxies in the past

PsF

PsF

I do have a RED ROCKET CARD but neither deck HD or SR will work unless enable PSF is checked! Sony claim your 25P isn't a standard 25P so we need to enable PSF to allow the decks to think its 50I (Progressive)

The way I found this out was when I tried to send a HDSDI signal out of a RED ROCKET to my patch panel and into something else. The signal wasn't strong enough so I had buy an AJA HDSDI re-clocker. My Tektronix WFM 7020 was seeing the signal correctly as 25P but neither Sony deck would see a signal unless I changed the settings to ENABLE PSF.

Background on this is that's a SONY specified HD-SDI chipset problem cut and pasted around the industry, and NOT a non-standard signal on our part. SONY needs PsF, whereas SMPTE says you can output either True Progressive (as RED does) or you can convert Progressive to Interlace and then output as Progressive Frame Segmented (as Sony requires)

The latter obviously takes more processing... and besides that is stupid :-)

However we understand why it's requested.

So make a DVD- or use an iPad. The one time we got to show producers an iPad they LOVED it. It was HD, portable, and intuitive. We had watermarks, chapters with scene and take names. It was pretty sweet.

To each his own I guess. I suppose to me it seems like an HDCAM tape would me more hassle and harder to view than a DVD.

is there a chance on a beta Firmware with psf enabled ? We have some hickups with 3G SDI and HDMI Displays so 25psf = 50i Mode would help here in PAL Land

Can you e-mail me regarding the specific issues you are seeing ?

I am trying to get the 720P to work out of the Epic-X and it can't be seen by my Blackmagic system. My Monitors indicate that, despite the choices in settings for HD-SDI Monitor outputs, there seem to be only two actual output formats for 720P, 23.98 and 29.97.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We shoot commercials and need Video Village to record live for Clients and shot approvals.
Thanks
