I had a chance to test the Hawk Vintage '74 anamorphics for my feature, A Girl and A Gun. Unfortunately we pushed the film until the summer but we were still able to shoot a few tests with the lenses. In short they looked incredible on the Epic, organic and beautiful. They really are an amazing set of lenses. Here's a compilation of some of our tests and also a more detailed blog post. I'll put up R3D stills soon.

Bjorn, love the Hawk C's as well. Definitely different beasts. The Vintage 74s flare like crazy compared to the C series and especially compared to the V-Lites. The Vlites almost dont flare at all unless your blazing a light down the barrel of the lens.

I kind of like the flare from the 74's.

The test looks great.

I've been waiting for some test footage of the 74's - I've a feeling they'll become popular lenses, with the feel of old Lomos but modern mechanics.

Now... wonder how nice the 45-90 zoom will be :)

I am in love.

Any filtration in front of the lenses? Doesn't look like it.

The 45-90 has the same optics as the Vplus 45-90 so it will be pretty amazing. Closer focus then the primes. Difference will be in how the Elements are coated.

I like the vibrance of the shots, with very nice skin tones. I do wonder, are you using any netting? I feel the bokeh looks sort of fuzzy. I can see the guy can't wait to throw down a good scene, or maybe a good fight.

.... and therein lies the magic :)

Plus it'll be a big white lens - LOL.

Why does the best glass have to be so damned expensive?

EDIT: Are RED Pro Anamorphics even a possibility any more?

Lens envy! Love the look of those too when paired with the Epic. It all has a very seventies vibe going and I really like the late 60's through early eighties filmmaking.

Any idea what these are going to cost? I love the look.
