  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Haven't heard from Red yet, is there really that many orders?

for those who didn't notice the change: "RED Armor is an extended 2-year warranty program for your Scarlet-X. RED Armor must be purchased before order processing begins. RED Armor warranty provides warranty coverage for a total of 3 years."

Brent, you guys are really pretty awesome. Thanks for the long days and all the hard work!

Yeah, I second that. I mentioned to my outstanding Bomb Squad rep, James, that I went from reconsidering my entire order to being a devotee in about 1 hour. And I'll be spending more anyway. Smart business. I'm impressed.

I was under the impression that RED Armor could be added any time during the initial warranty period.

When I ordered (Nov09) they clearly stated that you could add RED Armor anytime under the first year, so I hope they honor that. My guess is that they have order numbers of the ones that ordered before they changed it. Strange timing of change though.

They may feel they have a really stable camera on their hands. May be an advantage to slower processing, lower temps, hardware demands. Just a hunch.

Researching this, I see now that the RED Terms & Conditions state that it must be ordered before the product ships and the thread on it has evolved to indicate this. It does come as a surprise to me, though. I don't know... the only logic behind this change would be cash flow since any warranty issues during the first year are already covered and, as long as you must buy the extension before the basic warranty expires, RED is not at any higher risk.

That said, I hope we are at least given the opportunity to add the coverage to our order when we finalize things. :scared:

yeah, that's what I read too when I ordred, I feel if we ordred before the change they should honor it.

Here is my concern. I have the money for the camera now. The economy is not good, and doesn't look to be getting better anywhere. This change personally keeps me from buying the extended warranty right now and probably won't be able to do it by the time my order processes. Now later in December after I've done more work it's feasible.

But if you think about it long term. It comes with a 1 year warranty. It will probably get through 1 year. Say you can't afford it at time of purchase then 2 years down the road something awful happens and your camera breaks. So now your not only out a camera but out of work if the cost is to high. I might be alone here but I can't afford an additional $1500 after getting a full running kit. It's kind of made me take a step back and think about this purchase. I can understand from RED's pov as a business. But as a consumer its kind of odd to be offered something then have it changed (i know I know things change...expect it) several days after you order and shortly before processing. Not to mention it wasn't an extremely well known change.

So now I have to either find a way that I can come up with $1500 or pray that nothing happens to my camera for 3 years. I don't know what my financial situation will be in 1 or even 2 years. If I can't afford the repair I'm out a camera all because of this change.

Understandable move by RED but I think the timing is really bad. Holiday season, everyone spending to there limits to just get the gear. Many Epic owners don't seem to happy about it either. Just my 2 cents.

HM...

As I understood it:
All shipped cameras could add Armour within the warrantyperiod

All cameras shipped after Armour was announced would have to order it before shipping...

At the time there was some uncertainty as to Scarlet, as Scarlet was not yet out the door and the program for Epic M and Scarlet-X was still being tweaked...

OK, I just talked to my IT team. On the packages since they are the same price as a la carte, you will be able to edit by line item by contacting your rep. If you delete an item, you will not be charged for it since we only charge for what ships. Even though you ordered a package, you will not be charged for what does not ship (ie, deleted) from your package.

Fair?

Perfect solution. Thanks for the accommodation. When should Canon mount people contact their bomb squad. Once you call us it's too late and right now is too early. :D I want to help you guys as much as I can but I also don't want to get locked in for being helpful haha.

Re: Warranties
Yeah I want clarification on this as well. On November 3 when I ordered it was a "during first year". Honestly I'm planning on waiting to see if Epic/Scarlet is a lemon before deciding. Which is pretty much standard fare for Warranties. Not to mention that's $1500 that could be going into accessories.

Also how will the Dragon be handled? If I buy a $1500 warranty on my scarlet and then upgrade does the Dragon come with its own warranty? Will I need to rebuy RED Armor for the Dragon? Will it be an Aux warranty rate?

Yeah, since we are RED, we see it as "Here is what RED products are required to make this other RED product functional". We will change copy to show that "power" is required - and what RED offers in that vein.

Another suggestion that I would find helpful in the store would be to post stats for your products.

So the REDVolts could have a little table with:

Epic Runtime: ~20min
Scarlet Runtime: ~23min

And a 64 GB SSD could have something like:

5K 24fps 3:1 - 18:1 | 7 min - 42min
4k 24fps 3:1 - 18:1 | 11min - 69min

...That said, I hope we are at least given the opportunity to add the coverage to our order when we finalize things. :scared:

I just contacted my BSR (bomb squad rep) and had it added to my Scarlet X order.

Brent, I accidentally placed 2 orders for the scarlet at the event when the page crashed and actually went through when I didn't think it had. I talked to one of the reps there, don't remember who, but they told me no problem, to just wait until my rep contacts me and we can take it off and return the depost if it's charged. Now do I need to attempt contacting a rep asap before one actually contacts me?

Yes.

Thanks for making that clear Brent,

to keep from clogging anywhere else up with questions since you're posting here. Say that I ordered the 14K Scarlet AL package. To my understanding I can have the 64GB SSD and RedStation 1.8" removed without losing my place in line and get that amount to use on other accessories? I already had media and a station on hand, but ordered the package just for the ease of having to prevent ordering other items since the site was so slow. It would be awesome if I could remove those without losing my place in line to prevent having to just sell them when I get them.

Jeffrey

Yes. Removing items from a package does not affect timestamp of rest of package items. New items ordered will be timestamped at time of actual ordering.

Does this include the red armor item?

RED Armor is not a physical product and it is attached the camera(s) being ordered.

But if I ordered 2 Redvolts, and would like to get 4 pack instead, I'll get the camera with my place in line, but 4 pack would then arrive a lot later, right? So I'd end up having the Scarlet, but no batteries (for a while).

Brent - hate to be dense here (again) but how should we now go about adding RED Armor to our order - now, or wait to discuss with a Bomb Squad rep? And if we add now (can this even be done*) do we lose our original place in line?

* - I don't see a item in the store - do we call? Or send an email?
