  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Have you ever seen this blue noise?

Hey guys, I'm hooting DSMC1 Dragon 6K

I was shooting an interview yesterday. The camera was set to Quiet. About 8 minutes into rolling, the image in my camera started to turn blueish purple. Internal temp got up to about 71. I don't remember the sensor temp. Here's a screenshot from the start of the interview....

And here's the 8 minute mark where the blue noise came in.....

All of this was before I had done calibration. I flew in three hours in an airplane (possibly relevant?), went straight to set and forgot to calibrate. So I stopped the interview and did a calibration and then began rolling a few long clips in a conference room. where I purposely underexposed half of the sensor. Here's the start of the test...

Here's five minutes in....

Final update, as this was 24 hours ago. I updated to the very latest legacy firmware, calibrated again, and the camera seems totally fine. I've been stress testing it in my hotel for hours and I cannot replicate the problem.

I would love some opinions on what you think happened, and if you think I should take this camera to set again. I have another camera body now so I have the luxury of leaving this one out of commission for now.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Michael

Calibration related I think. The major questions are when was the last time you ran a Sensor Calibration and if recent, was it in fairly different temperature conditions.

The blue tint in the shadows may appear due to the influence of the sky. On a sunny day, the sky is clear and bright, its effect on the color of shadows is strong. It highlights the shadow areas and gives them a bluish tint. In no blocked room from ambient light .

We routinely will use Blue-Only NR in post if we run into trouble, and sometimes Blue-Only Desat as a Powergrade. Standard operating procedure. I do it even if nobody asks me to, just so the blacks remain black (assuming they're supposed to be black).

if you rushed a calibration there is a chance it was done at the wrong temp... (I have made this mistake).. then when the camera starts rolling the temp becomes the correct for set temp but now the calibration is wrong. I saw this with a Epic X I think
suppose ambient light going in yet temp inside camera around 3200. that is the result.
