  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has Red abandoned the 2k/4K Monitor idea

There's always the TV Logic 4K display which will run you about $56K.

There's a lot of stuff they're working on behind the scenes. It wouldn't surprise me if they had a few blueprints for a 4K monitor laying around the office.

I'll take two while I'm at it...
All joking aside Steve I think a 30 inch 2K, 10 bit 4:4:4 monitor would be the ideal solution and could compete with the Apple Cinema display and other similar monitors.

There are several affordable 2K and 1080p options on the market and a few 2.5K options. Quad-HD and 4K monitors are the next logical step for presentation displays, HDTVs, studio monitors, etc.. Would've been here already, as they have been demoed at tradeshows and the like for the past few years, but the market has been sidetracked by 3D for the time being.

A good 4K display is becoming very important, especially with the upcoming 5K cameras.

I agree a 4K monitor would be amazing but a 30 inch 2k, 4:4:4 and
56 inch monitor would challenge the current market. We need at least 10 bit 4:4:4 color space and a 30 inch monitor is ideal for a desktop display.
A 56 inch would be great for a client monitor.
Yes I'm all for a 4K display but at the right price.

I have been hoping for two years that Apple would take the next logical step in their monitor line and offer a 37" to 46" QuadHD (3,840 x 2,160) Cinema Display to replace the venerable 30" 2,560 x 1,600 ACD. Yes, I realize the universe of RedUsers is not exactly enticing to a company that typically sells millions of each gadget they make, but there are tons of still photographers.

More importantly to what I surmise is Apple's core strategy though, is the domination of the living room. One large monitor to rule it all. Big enough to watch from the couch but not too big for a large desk. By going QuadHD resolution the up-scaling from 1080 is super easy for video content and the ability to display 4 1080 images simultaneously is but a decent video card (or 2) away. There are also digital signage options that become viable, like menus and other things that have lots of smaller type.

Back to dreamland...

I can just SEE 2 Large BLACk monitors on my DESk, with a nicely sized RED Buzzsaw on the back of them.

We have a monitor program... but so does Sony, Barco, Meridian, Sharp, JVC, Epson, Panasonic and Samsung for 4K.

Unfortunately no specifics...

Sorry only meant to paste Jim's response when asked about Red making a 4k monitor:

I'd like to see some more high-res, huge gamut screens too - 4K 30" 3D OLED would be my dream.
Or even 8K, which would just push it past 300 dpi similar to high quality printing, what I do.
But for now I think the closest thing is something like the new NEC Spectraview 27".
