  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Has anyone recieved the microMatteBox for Red One?

Sorry, I don't have much sympathy anymore for this kind of sh**! Ship the product to your customers who have paid with nothing more than your words touting how great your own mattebox is going to be. We trust you and your word and when you take full payment for a product I expect you to ship it to me asap. And, what is the point of golden res holders, res holders and everyone else when they are only spaced a few weeks apart? This will be my last purchase from Redrock Micro!

i've just stopped paying attention to ship dates, and it's so much more relaxing that way...

things i've paid for and am waiting on:

50-150mm RED lens
Birger mount
RedRock mattebox
16 gb cards

i hate to say "it's the new paradigm, get used to it," but...

it's the new paradigm. certainly not specific to Redrock products....

want my redrock MB, want my Viewfactor stuff...
ET was the best 3rd party seller for me, order, pay, get tracking number the same day, hold in my hands a couple days later. perfect.

but i dont have red yet...if they come almost altogether i`ll be patient

"Hello Brian and team,

It would be nice to get the additional knobs in black instead of blue for my order number XX (so red and black knobs) if possible.

Kind regards,

...

Hi!

Thank you for your email and your order. We are only offering the blue additional knobs.

Best regards"

All in all I'm also doubtfull if I order anything from this company again, and in no way if there is a similar priced product from another competitor. I don't like the way it's managed.

I won't go in pre-order anymore, that's cashing in more than 10% upfront. Lesson learned.

I'm starting to get pretty impatient with the entire reservation process in general.

I think that's why RED isn't going to do this for Scarlet or EPIC. Literally everything I've ordered surrounding RED has been delayed. I don't think anything tops the pain the Birger res holders have felt though. I can understand smaller players wanting to gauge the level of interest in a product and take some money so they can finance production though. Might be the only way to get this low cost stuff off the ground.

whats that new arri MB called? when is it coming out?

I am planning on buy one when it's in stock and all the kinks are
worked out but why is RR going to jack the price up more?
I thought $595.00 was the final price with all the improvements already.

Price was discussed a while back well before NAB. The mattebox is still essentially $595, but that is just the mattebox. By the time you buy the rest of a full kit; like the RED kit with the 19mm rod mount, side wings and eyebrow, etc.., it adds up. The're not jacking the price up, all this has been covered and prices were set long ago, before they ever took a penny from anyone.

I have been beta testing a RedRock Micro matte box and it is amazing.

For the price there is nothing even at 4 times the cost that can touch it. Everything on it works well and it is well worth the wait. It seems RedRock was a little optimistic with its ship dates and just got boned by some of their manufacturers.

Really there are only 2 things I would like to see on this matte box.

1. A 15mm studio offset mount arm (Brian has told me these are in the works).

2. The matte box currently has a lock pin hole in the swing awayposition so when you swing it closed it will lock. It does not have a hole for the lock pin in the open position though. This would be nice to have because you do not want a gust of wind to slam your matte box closed and possibly knock filters into a lens while you are swapping lenses. We have found an easy work around by just making sure your elbow rests on the matte box when swapping lenses and that way it can not slam closed.

All in all the matte box is incredible. I can see a lot of frustration boiling up on this thread due to the delay, but seriously guys it seems like it is more from frustration boiling over from another products delay then this one. RedRocks delays have been very, very small compared to some of the other production delays.

For those that can not deal with the delay issues there is always $5,000 ARRI options for the matte box and $200,000 Master Primes over the birger mount.

I'm just as frustrated as the next guy, and I'm not a fan of the 100% payment model, but I will say, if everything I've heard about the mattebox is true, its hard to produce a great product at a cheap price without cutting corners. This means bad manufacturing partnerships that can leave some high and dry. My take is the old saying that nothing good comes for free (or in this case cheap). The way I'm thinking about all of this is I'm saving thousands of dollars by paying in frustration and slipped shipping dates.

Brian: After all the current orders are delivered, the microMatteBox will almost certainly go up in price to reflect these additions.

Brian is definitely going to jack up the price after the modification and kinks are finalized.

Ah, missed that one... But makes sense.

After my Red was constantly delayed numerous time, honestly, I don't count on anything anymore..

People should relax. We all have choices in life. You can choose to buy something else. This is how RR does business. If you peeps don't like it, support another business. I for one don't care.. the mattebox is such a great deal, I can wait for them to deliver when its ready..

Yes, I will support business who will not take 100% of the amount (my hard earned money) ages in advance and constantly pushing the delivery date. And compared to RED, this is a Mattebox; plastic, metal, and some hinges - how hard can it be to give a trustworthy shipping date????

I'm really 0% cool about RR for the moment!!!

I jumped ship and brought an Arri four weeks ago - just couldn't wait any longer - Redrock refunded promptly. I'm sure that for those who wait it will however be a great alternative. Planning shoot dates around it is a bit Russian Roulette though.

I just wish I could get them to respond to my email. I saw them at Cinegear and realized that it only supports 19mm when I told him I was no longer interested in them (I purchased 3 of them) he told me to send him a email and he would let me know about the 15mm setup. So here I sit with 3 mattebox's paid for and no idea when they will ship and no idea if I can use them if they do ship. As far quality of what I saw, not bad I think owner operators will be happy with it as far as a rental item I think you will be replacing them here and there but really at that price you could afford to 3 or 4 times before ever really feeling it.

Birns and Sawyer had a nice clip on mattebox at cinegear that I picked up, it was $1200 but it was a nice 2 stage with top flag the one stage has a built in Pola that rotates with a turn of the dial which is really nice not to mention this baby was built in America! We don't build much here but when we do you can trust its quality like Element Technica, Zacuto. Anyway I rant.
