Hi,

I'm sorry I know someone has already asked this question in the past few weeks but I feel the need to ask it again. What is the deal with 120 fps on the Scarlet???!!! This feature was one of the selling points for me when purchasing this camera and now it feels like it will never be enabled. It kinda of seems unfair that it would be listed in the Scarlet's specs when we were making the decision to place our deposits only for them to ship with out it. I'm sure that falls under false advertising.

I know there are heaps of rumors floating around about it possibly being enabled at 2k but at this stage has anyone heard anything reliable about it being enabled at 1k? I'm feeling a little jibbed at the moment.

Can someone from RED please shed some light on this.

Other than that I am loving my Scarlet!

Thanks!

When was that?

Scarlet REDCOD;
1-12 fps 5K FF
1-30 fps 4K HD
1-48 fps 3K HD
1-60 fps 1080p HD
1-120 fps 1K

I thought it was there, just at 9x less resolution than the original prototype fixed scarlets.. go figure.. at least it costs a lot more now eh ..Scarlet doesn't do Slo-mo frankly I'd learn to live with that unfortunate reality

I agree with Wissam Abdallah. The same for me. RED does not respect its commitments and its customers SCARLET-X. 64 FPS max at 2K. I hope this will be fixed soon with a firmware update.

did you seriously buy the scarlet based on 120fps at 1K?

RED does not respect its commitments and its customers
Christian, since you are new to this community, I'll just say that RED does respect us customers very much. In fact, there is no other camera company that respects us as much as they do. They tend to deliver more than they promised (usually a bit late, but getting better in that department as well.)

Just this month they came out with REDgamma3, wich gives you even richer colors. Those other "respectful" companies would either charge you for the upgrade or make you buy a new camera altogether. A free download at red.com/support.

With all my previous non-RED cameras, I would be lucky if I would get 50% of it's purchase price after 3 years. RED gave us a full refund.

With all due respect, calling RED disrespectful of its customers is, well, direspectful.

I met Ted here in Austin a couple weeks ago and asked him about this. His response was that they are working very hard on pushing the camera as much as they can, and that it is coming. He said they are still learning what the camera is capable of.

Not sure about 120 2k though.... It would be great, but don't get your hopes up. I'm sure we will see 1k 120 soon enough.

Thank you for this information. It is true that I am new to the RED world. Thank you for your testimony. I remain disappointed with the specification change, but otherwise, it's a great camera. I am comforted to know that RED is a company engaged to its customers. We will certainly have some interesting developments of the SCARLET-X.

Great feedback

Thank you

I believe one question mark is sufficient to denote a question. Multiple make it hard to read and a bit like being yelled at.

Even now Red are managing to eek out more magic stuff from the Red Ones.. who knows what the future holds for the Scarlet. Patience... Let the team work their wonderdust a little while longer.

In the meantime, 4k for under $15,000 - you're already sitting on the motherload of cutting edge technology, and a heap of potential.

That is irrelevant. I love my RED but that doesn't mean they get passes on things we would normally hold other companies responsible for. There's a vibe in this forum that I don't like. It feels like because RED has given us such amazing breakthroughs we are forever indebted to them and must not ever question their actions. Yes RED has developed some amazing products but the fact is we are paying for them and they are making a profit. They aren't doing this as a charity. Therefore as paying customers we have the right to question them when a product ships without a specification that was listed in its description when we were placing our deposits.

In Australia the department of fair trading describes this as false advertising and it is an offense. Unfortunately they can't help me.

I would love to hear from a RED rep about this

Seriously, i would like to get the future optional frame rates as well, but to call it false advertisement? I ordered on Nov 4th and knew then I was going to have to be patient for just receiving the Scarlet. I have good faith all these promoted options will be a reality in the near future for a camera I now own and knew from the start some options wouldn't be activated yet. Did you have a different impression of that?
most other manufacturers are releasing firmware unlocked features for cameras that are over a year old, they just don't mention it until it's released. RED has a different tactic about it and I understand how that can bring lovers and haters to the table, but just realize what you're buying into and you'll be fine.

120fps @ 2K. For that I can wait for as long as necessary.

I mean, Epic is doing 300fps at 2K and I don't think Scarlet is so much less powerful that it can't handle 120.

Heheh. 48 would be even better at 4k!

Give them some time people. There's a lot of R&D going on behind the Red curtain. Good things are coming.

I'm sure they will come out with a firmware to unleash the cameras full capabilities, which I feel is a bit higher than what was announced on Nov. 3.

I think the Scarlet is an amazing camera and nothing even comes close to its price/performance ratio. I don't check up on the forum often and maybe this question has already been presented and answered? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong or if I have misinformation. The Red One shoots 4k QHD @ 30 fps at 7.5.1 (Redcode 42). The Scarlet shoots 4k QHD @ 30fps at 6:1, which is a higher data rate? Red One peaks at Redcode 42 MB/s while Scarlet does 55MB/s? The Scarlet seems to have more processing power than the Red One so it seems reasonable that it should be able to shoot 3k @ 60 fps and 2k @ 120 fps? Sure, it may be 12:1, which is equal to Redcode 28 on the Red One? It seems the Scarlet should match if not excel the Red One and I wouldn't be surpassed if it did with future firmware updates. Native anamorphic support would be amazing. I'm extremely pleased with my Scarlet and plan to be purchasing an Epic soon, but this is just an observation of mine.

If you don't think RED respects its customers or commitments then you should probably go bash RED the official Canon forums.... oh wait...

RED is the only company that has a forum specifically set up to talk to their customers, get feedback and get to know their customers on a personal level... What other company do you know of where the owner and ceo will openly talk to somebody... or the head engineer will actively answer somebody's question? This place is all about respect for the customer, thats all RED knows... which is why their products are at the level they are at.

You're forgetting that even though your camera can not do 120fps at 1k (yet) that it does 4k at 30fps...let me repeat that... the camera does 4k at 30fps... RAW. In fact, you and everybody here should be arrested for theft at the price we paid for it.

Not really missing the 120fps at 1K. But I do feel the camera is somewhat under performing. I know it came in at 10 grand, but it's essentially at the price of what the Epic S would've been. And about 1/4 of what the Epic S would've been. I'd honestly sacrifice HDRx to get some extra frame rates in this camera. 2K in some scenarios is almost un-usable.

I'm really happy with the camera in most scenarios, and there really is nothing else out there that competes with it, outside the Epic for its price. Which is amazing. Just feels really limited. Philip Blooms comment of it being a Ferrari you can't get out of 1st gear is how I've felt since it got to my door step. At the same time RED is amazing and releases updates for free!
