My 5' touch LCD just went out during a prep shoot and I'm wondering if it has happened to anyone. I'm ordering a new cable as I don't have a spare one. I'm hoping that's the issue.

Nearly every issues I've seen on LCD Touch screens and the BOMB EVFs comes down to a crimped cable or one that has been manhandled.

However, there is that one screen that cracked in half off the Russian Arm. I think that had more to do with the ground, 60 mph, and getting too low for the shot.

Hah! Thanks Phil. I'm pretty sure my LCD hasn't gotten to that speed yet or hit the ground neither.

This recently happened about two weeks ago. It was quickly sorted by the guys at Red Pinewood Europe. Apparently, using low quality cables (non RED approved cables) can be a cause of this. At the time I was using one I bought online.

I've been using a Red brand cable that came back with some issues after a rental. I just purchased a new one. Will give it a try.

If it does not work your the innards may have been fried. Try a hard reset of the camera first before calling the Bomb Squad

thanks Nosa! Excuse my ignorance but how do you hard reset? I turned it off with the on/off button and turned back on, it worked but the touch screen wasn't working so I shut it down. Then, I turned it back on and didn't work any longer.

Always always have 2 of every cable, this is most likely the culprit

Agreed... i think a few owner ops just do not want to spend an extra £180... but Jake is giving good advice.

The cables are ridiculously priced in this industry for sure

Before RED I had never used a LEMO connector, and in the old days only the AC type guys were "allowed" to touched the camera - so i "thought" i understood how to use a lemo connector but kind of messed my 5 inch touch connector a bit. I bet a lot of renters don't realize you need to just pull the bumpy part. Also if it gets messed up a bit ... i found i have to pull the bumpy part while pushing in the back part. Anyway I have had my touch screen not work a couple of times and had to reseat the plugs. Was totally my fault though. I love the lemo connectors now, can see why they cost a lot, and only use the red ones.

My three year old Touch went out a few weeks ago; suddenly. I have extra cables and it wasn't the cable. I have only used RED cables. Sent back to RED and they repaired it; good as new. Less than $200 IIRC.

It was indeed an issue of bad LCD cable. Thanks guys!
