I don't recall this happening in Resolve 11, now on Resolve 12.3.1 - but I got some H.264 files sent to me (shot on an Epic) to do a quick test with, and after about 5 minutes Resolve stops responding. I can access the drop down menus from the top line but they don't do anything (including quit). I had to hard reset my Mac Pro. Is this a known issue?

I'm running a
Mid 2010 Mac Pro 2x2.4 GHz
40GB of Ram
NVIDA 780 3Gb
Software Raid for media
SSD for System

Thanks

Tommy

Transcode the H.264 files to a compatible version of ProRes.

Who would shoot a Red Epic and create only H.264 files? That's just crazy talk.

Someone who has no clue. They wanted to upload it youtube and then have me do a download from youtube. UGH!!!! At least they understood what dropbox is.
Hang them by the neck until they learn how workflow is supposed to function.

There's about a thousand different ways to send large files from here to there. I'm using Hightail (formerly YouSendIt), which works pretty well. H.264 is supposed to be only a delivery format, not an origination format. It's piss-poor for editing and color.

Yes, if you have too many H.264 files they will crash. BM has just released a new version that apparently helps with this. I have yet to test it, but the previous version does crash it. Transcoding to Proress or DNXHR will solve the issue.

It's frustrating as other programs can handle H.264. I know BM runs Davinci on the edge to max performance so it causes issues. It would be nice if they dialled it back or gave us a throttle to control how much of the GPU or CPU we use. When output QC issues are way more important then performance. It's part of a rock steady platform they need to learn and render issues like H264 crashing or green lines are a real problem.
