  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

GTX 570, 580, 670 or 680 for Resolve in a MacPro Early 2009 (4,1)?

I have spent hours trying to find witch card to get for our Davinci setup. Some people recommend the GTX 570 with 2,5 GB memory but they are so rare these days. I can easily get a GTX 670/680 but then I read it´s better for gaming.

Anyone know if the 670/680 is as good as the 570 in resolve? I want to use it and the ATI card we already have at the same time, only using the GTX for Cuda processing.

Thanks!

If you want to use your existing ATI card for GUI, which I guess is a 5770, that's fine. But it uses one motherboard power connector. Unless you plan on a expander, or rigging power from the spare DVD drive bay, you are limited to one spare motherboard power connector. That restriction and sourcing the power cable to use that connector are your guides as to what u can use.

The 680 is a good card. First find a solution to the power issue.

I have a MacVids Mod'd GTX570 in my 4,1
Also running a gt640 as my GUI card.
Its a solid card but can be buggy. Check http://liftgammagain.com
They talk about this in various forums. I think the 680 is solid.

Quadro K5000 for Mac was officially released last week... You may seriously want to consider this one. It's a bit pricey, but is an official card, fully supported, essentially is a GTX680 with a slightly slower, more stable clock, but better memory management and throughput.

It's not the greatest fit for a Mac Pro as the Mac can't use the card to its fullest, but then again, it's not a hacked solution with potential compromises. On Windows, it benchmarks similar to a Quadro 6000 in most tests. But a little different, some things faster, some slower.
